It's too much and a bit nauseating.
All this white guilt and virtue signalling.
What happened to Floyd should not have happened, the animal of a cop should be punished to the fullest extend of the law. The video is horrific, the sounds, just watching a man slowly die and the copper just not giving a damn. The protests are justified, the rioting and vandalism not so much.
As a white bloke I have no idea what a black person goes through day to day, but I have no doubt that the colour of their skin does make it harder. I don't feel guilt because of it, I'm not going to apologise or 'take the knee'. I'm not racist, the colour of someone's skin means nothing, I judge someone on whether or not they're a tit or not.
I've 'unfriended' a number of people on Facebook over the last couple of weeks as the events have brought out their racist tendencies. The responses of 'All Lives Matter' is one that does my head in, Black Lives Matter doesn't mean ONLY Black Lives Matter, it means Black Lives Matter too, because Black Lives don't appear to matter as much as others in many countries.

What happened to George Floyd was clearly wrong and it should be dealt with through the US courts. And if people do not believe their government and law enforcement agencies are acting in a fair and equal way, of course they should have the right to protest. There should be no place for racism or any other type of hatred/discrimination in today's society. I stand with all those fighting for a fair and just society.
HOWEVER: In the current situation, with this pandemic, there absolutely should be no mass gatherings.
THEREFORE: I condemn these protest gatherings and marches, just as I condemn all those mass gatherings, over the last couple of weeks, at holiday resorts and beauty spots. I also condemn all those others who have flouted the rules (including Dominic Cummings and various other MPs of various political parties).
We have been FAILED by a weak government (and, before anyone accuses me of political bias, I see no better alternative from the likes of Labour, Liberals, Greens etc.).Stop hovering to collapse... Good that this is now being looked at in full context, but the Premier League and likes of Sky have backed themselves into a real corner with this. If only there'd been a pause for thought and consideration, a bit of due diligence - even someone reading their bloody website! - before the rush to jump on the virtue signaling bandwagon.Stop hovering to collapse... The Murder of this poor guy was terrible and ALL the police involved should be arrested . The aftermath though is terrible , rioting - looting and arson are being disrespectful to this mans memory , trying to claim the " moral highground" then burning the city to the ground is wrong

There have been some really good points and good arguments made here by both sides. I’ve tried to think about my own viewpoints and attitudes a little more, and It’s certainly helped shed some light on areas that I’ve not been getting right.
I think @Faithful Bantam has made a really good point about the BLM movement. While I do think there is institutional racism in this country, and I do think that there’s a legitimate backdrop to these protests, I think a lot of the left and liberal can be extremely guilty of saying and doing ‘whatever they can to fight injustice’, but only selectively applying this.
And I’m absolutely not surprised that the working class feel that their concerns are being neglected, and the societal inequalities are being understood purely through the lens of racism, and are steadfastly refusing to accept that we have widespread class based inequality of opportunity in this country. The white left wing view comes across as ‘no, no, it’s the black community that I’m actively defending - you’re all still racist scum’.
We should absolutely be standing up to racism, wherever it is, and whatever form it takes, but simultaneously stand up for all lives. Telling deprived white communities that ACTUALLY they should feel lucky that they’re so privileged is just tone deaf, and I’ll hold my hands up to an extent on that. Clearly a lot of people don’t feel very privileged. It’s a kick in the face.
The middle class liberal has become too accustomed to trying to win an argument on race, and neglecting the fact that a lot of the concerns of the black community are equally applicable across all deprived communities.
Maybe I’ve not phrased all of that 100% coherently, but it’s to broadly say that I can fully understand why the words ‘black lives matter’ - a movement that I sympathise with - is being interpreted by many as ‘and your life doesn’t’ and would only serve to increase the level of disenfranchisement.
Thank you also to whoever suggested ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race’ - have had similar recommendations and have ordered a copy. One thing I’ve realised is how much I don’t really know about the topic.ConnecticutBantam, WilsdenBantam, RCarol and 5 others like this. -
The real Anti- facists in this country , these will never come home . Scum defacing memorials in London . What was the point . These brave men made the ultimate sacrifice to give these sewer rats the freedom to protest .

https://diversityuk.org/britains-most-ethnically-diverse-cabinet-ever/
The make up of the police is broadly 93% white, compared to 86% of the populations demographic. Which is over subscribed, but not hugely. And the % of BAME representatives is increasing year on year. The following article sets out the approach being taken to improve diversity, which wouldn’t be happening in a systemically racist organisation. Given the over representation of Crime from BAME communities - which is driven by poverty more than anything else - Perhaps the Police hasn’t historically been seen as a preferred career path. Not helped by the myth of institutional racism.
https://www.policenow.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Police-Now-Impact-Report.pdf
For it to be a representation of prejudice, you’d have to show prejudice in the number of applications submitted and accepted by race. Can you?The governments data below, shows the year on year progress in the proportion of BAME officers at all ranks.
https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/workforce-and-business/workforce-diversity/police-workforce/latest
This is a breakdown of stop and searches by race across England and Wales. when adjusted for the % of crime committed by racial demographic, there’s no signs of prejudice whatsoever. It’s almost exactly as you’d expect. It refutes the numbers you’ve suggested.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/284677/police-stop-and-searches-in-england-and-wales-by-ethnicity/
This article looks at the deaths in police custody over the last 10 years and finds that ‘there’s been a 25% greater likelihood of death if you’re white than black’.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/52890363
‘Stop Police Brutality’. We don’t have a problem with it in this country. Only 4 countries in the world have a lower death rate at the hands of the police. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_by_country
The highest paid actor in the world last year is black. 4 of the 10 highest paid athletes in the world last year are black.
You’re peddling myths that aren’t born out by fact.
Of the last England squad of 27, 13 were BAME. That’s almost half and an over representation of the BAME population.
Where’s the oppression? Selective choosing of under representation with incorrect data and absent context, and neglecting to look at areas where BAME people are thriving.
Keep calling me out Fordy. I’m eager to learn, but I don’t think you’ll ever have anything to teach me. If you want to call any of my views outdated, reference the specific view, use a degree of accurate fact to make your point, don’t misrepresent or twist my comments and avoid attempting to make cheap shots as they undermine any argument you may have. Otherwise - politely - don’t engage me.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...trevor, WilsdenBantam, Idlebantam and 5 others like this. -
I would just like to thank everyone that protested today.
Thank you for ignoring the sacrifices that Nurses, Doctors, care workers, delivery drivers, supermarket workers, key workers and everyone that has kept us alive and going through this crisis.
Thank you for dishonoring those 40,000 that have died in the U.K. and the family’s that mourn them.
Thank you for disrespecting the 10’s of millions who have been at home; alone, lonely and away from their mum's, dads, grandparents, children and friends.
Thank you for your sheer and absolute arrogance that makes your protest spread this virus to so many more people who will die.

Here's a thought. Given the public show of support that the Premier Leagues footballers have shown for BLM, I wonder if they'll still be going to the world cup in Qatar? What with the number of people who've worked in slave liked conditions to build its stadia, the number of deaths in the process, its human rights record and its attitudes towards women in society? If they're going to take a position, do it fully.

1) This sense of compulsion around how everybody should think, act and speak. It's not even a case of 'you're not allowed to say that', its 'you HAVE to say this'.
2) The hypocritical and completely lop-sided portrayal of events in the media, which I think divide people more and more, and make the job of the Police - and other organisations, impossible.
3) Fuelled by 2, the misrepresentation of this issue, which depicts racism as a deep seated, institutionalized issue. Racism is abhorrent, but its a long way from being the biggest issue we have to deal with in this country. EVERYTHING is being racialized, there's a lack of directness about dealing with issues within black communities, that have nothing to do with racism.
The sense of tolerance has been lost. Its turned into virtue-signaling top trumps, and I worry about where it will lead.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...RCarol, Keefly Bantam, Salty and 5 others like this. -
