I forecast a race war starting in America , the loonies on both sides are building up to it , i just hope it doesen't spread to the UK .

 

Our rich history is based on stealing and looting things from black people, brown people and/or weaker nations then subsequently trying to pretend they were ours all along. 100% of the music anyone listens today that isn't classical has at some point been stolen from black culture, thats a fact.

Also r.e another post on book burning, it isn't similar to book burning because they aren't burning books and trying to erase these things from history. The issue is with these figures being celebrated with statues despite what they were involved in. The plaque on the colston statue didn't even mention he was a slaver, which to me is airbrushing history given thats how he made most of his money. Cecil Rhodes is a good example of someone who doesn't deserve a statue, given he was of the sincere belief he had a divine right by god to dominate, rule over and enslave the people of africa because they were a different colour to him. You could also quite easily argue through his actions he was the godfather of the apartheid system.

You can't always apply todays standards to yesterdays people, but you owe it to history to tell the story of these people in its fullest, warts and all. glossing over the bad bits seems very self serving to me.

 

They also demonised one specific race, attributing the flaws and failings within its own community to that race, suppressing the voice of anyone who disagreed with threats and acts of violence and intimidation. I see parallels with the far right narrative of the 20s/30s and the far left narrative that we’re seeing play out today.

 

I don’t think thats true, but I do think that the majority and biggest issues afflicting black communities exist within those communities, not from outside oppression based on race.

I've heard some black protesters were angry that there were white people joining in the protests. I'm sorry, but unless someone from the white community speaks to the black community - some people with sense - then this is never going to end. Morgan asked someone this morning "why didn't the police stop the graffiti on the Churchill statue?". I tell you why - it's because white people - normal white people, not racist white people - are now afraid to even speak out for fear of being labelled something they are not.
