I agree. Just play the games without the players. They're irrelevant

Yesterday the US had 2,300 deaths fron Covid 19 one of the highest mortality rates in the US during the pandemic. Does that suggest the emergency is over? Nope.
And yet the Covid 19 task force has been stood down by the Prez. It will be replaced by a new task force whose primary role will be to kickstart the economy. It's difficult to reconcile those two positions without a recognition that the Prez's re-election campaign is due to start shortly. And the priority of his gun toting supporters in Michigan and elsewhere is their jobs and not preventing further deaths from the virus.
This has little to do with the emergency being over and everything to do with the Prez's wish for a second term.RCarol, Bronco, Faithful Bantam and 3 others like this. -
Apologies for going off track, but just preparing for a house move and came across this memento. It was one of the best days..other than Wembley of course..of my life.I was a guest of a match sponsor in May 1999 when we got promotion to the PL, on the final day of the season. In the hospitality lounge, amidst hundreds of partisan Wolves supporters,I scooped the 'match score' prize. And the walk through 'em all to collect it was akin to feeling like an alien! Oh how I wish that this season could have promised us so much more. Eh,I know I looked old back then..but just imagine how I look now folks..certainly not Avatar material!

I've got 8 bar staff. Currently the bars are open here until 22:00. However, during the two months, I decided to close the bar because a) there weren't many customers and b) I thought it was the responsible thing to do. I put the workers on furlough, because I didn't want to lay them off, and also the 70% salary contribution from the Government was very welcome. I have to pay 150€ per worker, pay the taxes and the Government tops it up until May the 18th.
The last couple of weeks has seen restrictions on movement lifted, and that coupled with some decent weather has made more and more bars open up. For the past two weekends, I opened the bar and had a roaring trade, almost like there was no CV19 at all. The problem was, that I could only get two of my staff to work. The six who didn't work either had "other plans for that weekend" or were still a bit unsure about coming back to work in the current environment. So basically they stayed at home, took their monthly pay, but let two other workers do all their shifts - even though these two workers were getting the same pay as the ones not working, but making the effort to come and get behind the bar. Which I think is unfair.
It's definitely made me realise which of my staff are lazy, and which are prepared to work. On the 18th when the furlough is taken away, there will be loads of staff laid off and the market will be full of people looking for jobs. I pointed this out to the other six, and miraculously, they are all available to work this weekend!RCarol, Rocket, Interested Bystander and 3 others like this. -

Firstly, Cobra is a Govt committee called for specific emergencies (the name comes from Cabinet Office Briefing RoomA) and comprises a few inner members of the cabinet, the head of the Cabinet Office, certain political and strategic advisers (incl Dominic Cummings) and occasionally scientists who are not members of Cobra but do attend to advise on specific issues. It is usually chaired by the PM when he decides to turn up although it's been widely reported that he missed the first five meetings of Cobra at the start of the pandemic. Whilst first ministers etc are sometimes invited, opposition party leaders are definitely NOT members of Cobra and do not attend.
Secondly it was the May Govt which decided to ignore the recommendations of Exercise Cygnus about 3 years ago after it ran its pandemic simulation and found the country wanting in terms of PPE, ICU beds and lots of other important stuff, which would have prevented the country dealing properly with a major virus oubreak. And at the time when May's Cabinet ignored the recommendations, both Johnson and Gove and of course Jeremy Hunt were members of the Cabinet. They were part of the decision to kick the Cygnus recommendations into the long grass. The PM cannot now get away from being in part responsible for the failure to plan for the Covid 19 crisis.
And the PM chooses to ignore the advice of his medical experts when it suits him. We've seen this recently when he benched Prof Van Tam and then the Chief Nursing Officer for saying things he didn't agree with on the daily press briefing. And previously Messrs Witty and Vallance have themselves stood down from the daily briefings. Despite what he says, the PM gives the impression that he prefers to focus on the politics of the situation rather than the science.thebantamhaslanded, Hulmebantam, Fordy117 and 3 others like this. -

It goes something like this ...
Queue with proper social distancing for an hour to have the 90 min test taken
Go next door to the pop up bar, still maintaining social distancing whilst waiting for yhe test result
Order the beer through an app on your phone
Wait half an hour for the beer to arrive. Order another one in anticipation
Throw a couple down your neck
Wait for another hour for the Covid test results to appear on your phone
If the test is negative, join the queue at the turnstile for an hour to get into VP and rush to get to your unfamiliar seat through the one way system
If positive, order another couple of beers!
That should work well!RCarol, Keefly Bantam, How and 3 others like this. -

Its been reported today that the Premier League, EFL, FA and government have reached an agreement to play the remainder of the season behind closed doors in July over a 4-6 week period. As this means rolling into the 2020/21 season, they are considering scrapping the League Cup and EFL Trophy to ease fixture congestion.
Personally, when football returns, I think the priority should be to complete whats been started rather than voiding the season from both a financial and integrity point of view.thebantamhaslanded, Rogered Tart, Fordy117 and 2 others like this.
