Yep. But lockdown has obviously stopped an element of the numbers. The fact that many of the men who died (and people in general) were infected before lockdown is kinda the point. Lockdown has perturbed all the numbers.

That doesn't really matter though because I don't think anybody is actually saying to stop football because the players themselves are actually at high risk of death.

Sorry, I said financial pressures of lockdown on the NHS might be causing 5000 premature deaths per WEEK. I meant to say 5000 premature deaths per each DAY of lockdown, based on this recession being worse than the last one and having similar NHS pressures in comparison to GDP loss. It highlights how important it is to get out of lockdown for health reasons. Which industries generate most taxes for the NHS most quickly for least exposure of people? I would have guessed top flight football would be well up the list actually, though it will be a very complex analysis.

There's a surprise, not. A left wing newspaper using a left wing think tank's report blaming austerity on 130,000 preventable deaths since 2012

I expect you to hand in your notice on Tuesday!

P45 will be in the post!

Footballers have to do a job like you and if police, NHS and every other fu@ker a part from those over 70 have to get back to work then so do them.

Lazy Britain- full of bums with a sliver spoon mentality who make excuses not to work. Teachers moaning now! It's a joke.. do your job or hand in your notice! Not difficult!

5,000 premature births per day? That is more than double the normal birth rate per day.

Honestly think most on Furlough are snookered. No cash coming in for most businesses.

Look, you have to a) go back to work in June if you're not made redundant or b) hand in your notice then wait until hopefully a vaccine is fine.

So, like all. Make a decision and get on with it.

You putting footballers in a bubble makes me sick.

They need to do their job like most of us. If not then then no football until a vaccine is found - simple!

Its a tough call coming up for Boris, you can't keep people on furlough for too long as the economy won't stand it. Businesses are already going to the wall and will continue to do so until the lockdown is eased and eventually lifted. Like i said, its a fine balancing act.

Which bit.. Furlough bit? Companies will make most on Furlough redundant as no cash coming in. Do you expect the government to pay the wages about 9m forever?

Vaccine bit - no vaccine for 12/18 months

Footballers catching it - human! Not machines... they will catch it

Virus bit - we need to cope with it. People have to work. If you don't want to work quit your job, stay at @Bronco@Bronco house and claim a pension if you are over 55 and watch the world spin round.

Think you need to get a grip on reality.

Half the footballers probably had it already since they were much more likely to frequent crowds and heavy socialising ahead of lockdown and 10-15% have antibodies in worst hit areas, according to our chief scientific adviser - far more than previously suggested. Antibodies this week would be infections 2 or 3 weeks ago. So numbers infected in some big cities maybe now up to 15-20%? (Which also means it might be no more deadly than flu - just more infected more quickly and done? Which also means cases might be falling due to herd immunity? But we don't know because we have not had the right testing. And what made Vallance think 10-15% in worst places? Always more questions than answers.)

And what does 15-20% do for herd immunity? Issues with Imperial College's model that the government is using:

Worse, the code does not allow for large variations among groups of people with respect to their susceptibility to the virus and their social connections.

An infected nurse in a hospital is likely to transmit the virus to many more people than an asymptomatic child. Introducing such heterogeneity shows that the threshold to achieve herd immunity with modest social distancing is much lower than the 50-60 per cent implied by the Ferguson model. One experienced modeller tells us that “my own modelling suggests that somewhere between 10 per cent and 30 per cent would suffice, depending on what assumptions one makes.

Data from Sweden support this. Despite only moderate social-distancing measures, the epidemic stopped growing in Stockholm County by mid-April, and has since shrunk significantly, implying that the herd immunity threshold was reached at a point when around 20 per cent of the population was immune, according to estimates by the Swedish public health authority.

I'm not putting them I a bubble just in with the remainder of the non-essential, entertainment type jobs. Do it if it's safe, but don't take chances that are out of step with the benefits.

It's not non essential. It's a business.a business that brings a lot of money to the economy. Advertising, bookies, TV,

Plus it mentality it helps the general public.

Footballers moaning that their will get this virus is pointless because like most they have to get on with it or hang up their boots.
