Judging O'Donnell based on the defence we had is
a bit hasty. We were wanting to sign him previously but
missed out on him.
The defence needs confidence in the keeper, the keeper
needs confidence in the defence.Chicken or egg?
Give him a chance if he's no better this season play
Hornby instead!

My opinion is that anyone who couldn't see that Anderson significantly improved from when he made his debut to the season's end either wasn't paying attention or had already written him off and refused to acknowledge any positive evidence.
Anderson came to us with no match fitness whatsoever, having struggled to regain his former form after two serious injuries. His performances definitely improved as he got more game time. He wasn't pulling up any trees, but it's hard to do that in a team that had become utterly dysfunctional by February/March time.Inspector, Bradford End, Bronco and 8 others like this. -

But to answer your question ..... yes and no!
Every League 1/League 2 club has to submit a SCMP statement signed off by a director or other responsible person to the EFL before the season starts of their likely income and their likely spending on payers' wages etc. Imo that's a bit of a joke since which club knows exactly what it will be paying out in players wages etc at that point and how many will be coming through the gates? It's almost a pointless exercise other than to establish a baseline for the clubs. Once the season starts, each club then has to submit an 'actual' SCMP statement to date and an estimate for the remainder of the season. Unless things are seriously out of kilter at a particular club, it's still a bit of a joke since there is still a lot of uncertainty about the remainder of the season. But it does allow the EFL to start to ask questions of particular clubs. From memory, the first so-called 'Mid-Season SCMP statement' is due in mid December covering the first four months or so of the season.
After the transfer window has closed, it starts to get a little more serious but is still dependent of the honesty and openness of the club. It's an important part of the SCMP regime that clubs have to notify the EFL if they expect to breach the SCMP rules. Whether they do is a matter of debate and I suspect there have been some clubs who have just ignored this. Bury would be a good example imo. If clubs are known to be having financial problems, such as not paying their players, the EFL is entitled to investigate, not that the club is in financial difficulties, but whether it has breached the SCMP rules! (The EFL can also investigate whether the club has sufficient funding to see it through the reminder of its fixtures). But even then, the only weapon the EFL has is to refuse to sanction further transfers and it's too late then for that to have any real effect in that season.
Just to complete the process, at the end of the year, every club has to submit a final SCMP statement and if any club is in breach of the rules, the sanctions on player transfers take effect in the following season. I don't recall any examples of that in the lower leagues other than the high profile ones which hit the media.
I'm hoping I've shown that it's not an ideal mechanism! In fact imo, it's piss poor governance by the EFL and allows situations like Bolton's, Bury's, Blackburn's, Forest's to escalate out of control and by the time anything can be done, the damage to the club and indeed the reputation of the EFL has happened. The EFL have tried to tighten the rules but all important rule changes have to be agreed by a large majority of the clubs and it never seems to get to that point.
If I was in control of this, I'd make it much tighter by making two changes. Firstly, I'd make it a personal offence for a director of a club to knowingly make a false SCMP statement or fail to inform the EFL if the SCMP rules are likely to be breached by the club. Secondly, I'd tighten up the Owners & Directors test to preclude anybody being involved in football management who has failed to comply with the SCMP, or wider FFP rules. That might force directors etc to be a little more careful when they are putting their names to false statements and help to improve football's atrocious record in governance matters. But I don't expect anything like that to happen in the near future! -

Hearing a couple of rumours regarding players contracts this morning. Firstly, that (as a few of us have suggested), there are a fair few release clauses and secondly, that the majority of them are due a significant reduction in their wages due to being relegated. If true, it may not be as difficult to get rid of them as first thought.

The Yorkshire post confirms this morning that we do have a 15% sell on clause if McBurnie moves. We also get money if Sunderland are promoted as part of the Wyke transfer and we get money from Lincoln because McCarten helped them to promotion so there could possibly some sort of salvation there if it all falls into place

Bottom line - unless we find a way to ensure our match going fans continue to go, and start to pay the going rate - or unless our owner props our budget up on an ongoing basis - we ain’t going to compete with ‘smaller’ clubs.
It feels to me like we’re a completely directionless club, lacking in strategy and leadership. We’ll be pinning our hopes on Bowyer ‘doing a Parky’, I.e. running all aspects of the club to something like a professional standard.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... I'm happy with O'Donnell, he's come away from this season with a lot of criticism, but he's more than good enough for L2.

I tend to agree with @NorthernMonkey on this one Ronnie, at 35 years old and knowing where we are in footballing terms, I cant see him demanding a huge chunk in wages. Hes in his last seasons granted but i think what hed bring in terms of experience and footballing nouse would surely benefit us on and off the pitch. The Hamilton fans tweeting last night are sorry to see him go and still say hes still solid at the back.
As you rightly pointed out, hes never really relied on pace, his strength is his footballing brain, therefore L2 should be the best place for him to ply his trade for his remaining years. In addition, if he acts as an example for the younger defenders youd like to think we'd be targeting, it's a no brainer for me. It of all of the old heads weve been linked with again, hes the one I'd most like to see return.rmbenson007, bcfc2015, Allotment Bantam and 7 others like this.
