Would we have a chance to tempt the lad at Blackpool? Gnanduillet?

I reckon we might sign a couple of players that he used to work with at Blackpool, it would make sense. I'm not sure how realistic they would be though and I don't know a great deal about them so I'm just taking a stab in the dark.

Mark Cullen - I'm not sure i'd want him back, currently on loan at Carlisle. Need to be looking for better for our first team IMO, but he did score the winning goal against Exeter in the playoff final so it wouldn't surprise me if there was interest in him as a squad player.

Jamille Matt - A striker who played a part in Blackpool's league two promotion campaign, currently at Newport where he has scored thirteen league goals. He's 6"1 so he would add height to the team.

Tom Aldred - Center back currently on loan at Motherwell from Bury and from what I've read he's putting in good performances so I think this one is unlikely. I'm sure we've been linked with him in the past though.

Neil Danns - At 36 he's surely too old for us, currently plying his trade at Bury but he was part of the playoff final winning team at Blackpool.

A lot of Blackpool's best players have gone on to bigger and better things so there aren't many inspiring names that we would be in with a chance of getting unfortunately. Anybody else have any other suggestions?

 

Hearing a couple of rumours regarding players contracts this morning. Firstly, that (as a few of us have suggested), there are a fair few release clauses and secondly, that the majority of them are due a significant reduction in their wages due to being relegated. If true, it may not be as difficult to get rid of them as first thought.

 

I wonder if we might make an attempt to re-sign a player from our history making league two side? Just speculation.

Scunthorpe fans don't seem to rate Rory McArdle, I wonder if there might be some interest there in the summer.

Dare I mention James Hanson's name?

I have heard that Bowyer only wants 3 players out of the current squad to stay - the rest he wants rid of.

The three are Doyle, Devine and Paudie O Connor.

 

We need to stop harping back to the past. Rory is not the player he was when he was here, loved him to death back then but wouldn't want him back now. Same with Hanson. If we are serious about wanting to try and bounce back at the first attempt, we need to bring in a core group of players that not only can help us to do that, but that will also be able to step up to league 1 the following season, otherwise we will be left rebuilding a full squad in the summer yet again.

 

Devine is an odd one. Looked like a rabbit in headlights yesterday, albeit he only had a few minutes.

Doyle would do a job in league two. Some pretty average league one players can look good in league two, Kieran Agard scored six goals in MK Dons relegation season, he's currently on twenty goals in league two.

 

Have you seen the wage he's on? We can do a lot better for a lot less. Get rid of the carthorse.

 

Seems fishy to me. Pretty sure Mellor will be amongst the ones he wants to keep.

I know it does happen that players get a release clause in their contracts, but just imagine said player being signed on a say £200,000 transfer fee and the first thing he asks for is a relegation clause, modern day footballers and agents.

 

Absolutely bang on, in my opinion, if were to be a force in L2 next season with aspirations of promotion, we need to be building a near enough L1 quality squad next year. Look at Luton, the core of their squad this year that look destined for a possible successive promotion is practically the same as the one which dominated L2! This squad needs to be built from the best of L2 and up and coming non league talent, those tipped for success, and command a fee, and some of the best L1 talent available, keeping the best of what we have such as Doyle. That way we avoid a complete rebuild in L1 should we get there
