GB has said in todays T&A he has active lines of enquiry ongoing to bring in 2 more players but is waiting on other deals to go through.

1 CF and 1 CM do you think?

True. But to be frank I couldn’t care less what a player has done at previous clubs if they’ve had a fair crack at the whip at city, and Millar did. Not someone I personally want to set eyes on in claret and amber again, thankfully I don’t think I’ll have too.

But a manager usually based his opinion on what a player has done elswhere that's my point.
And Barnsley paid a decent fee for the lad so they must think he has ability, mybe it was him coming to the players grave yard that was Valley Parade and Bradford City generally last season.

Managers will also have to look at his record with us as well, which was poor to say the least. Barnsley also signed a young lad from us Mottley-Henry? Doesn’t automatically make him good because he’s been signed.

I don’t really agree with this, yes we were a basket case last season no argument there, however, if you have the skill and more importantly the mentality you can actually use it to develop. You only had to watch young Lewis last night to see how he had developed despite the environment.

Lewis was given an opportunity last season and grasped it with both hands. He was a shining example of how to conduct yourself properly in adversity and led by example. Shame some of the older more experienced players couldn't follow his lead.

Is there not a transition year - to allow relegated clubs to align to Div 2 fpp? As we have found out it is not always easy to offload players who will be on higher wages. It certainly puts the club at a disadvantage when your co owner has signed players who we are left with, are not able to perform and are on wages they do not deserve to be paid.

It’s catch 22. Some will say players like Miller were poor due to playing in a poor team, environment etc. I say our team was so poor due to players like Miller. That’s not me picking on him, he was one of 10 or so players who were just really poor, players I’d rather never see play for us again. Thankfully Doyle, Wright and Miller we don’t have to worry about seeing them again, god forbid we actually actively tried to sign one of the crap from last season.

Unfortunately we already have though in giving Anderson a new contract.

We could go on forever, not sure Barnsley paid a fee for Henry where as I say they have for Miller even after his poor spell with City with regards goal returns ;).
Very few if any would have believed McBurnie would have gone on and done as well as he has and given such a good return to the club with regards sell his sell on

Very true. I’ll have my final say by saying McBurnie was a young teenager (17) Miller is 4 years older than McBurnie was with us. Better to compare them at the same age so it’s fair all round.

So you do aree, I pointed out even though he had a demanding 12 months at Valley Parade Barnsley still fanied him and paid a transfer fee.

He will be better for the experience of last season playing his first season in League football, Not sure Barnsley would let him go out to div 2 club but worth a punt given we have no one like him in the squad

Strictly speaking, lower league clubs are subject to what is known as the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) which is the form of FFP used by the EFL in the lower leagues. It's essentially a wages cap based on a proportion of the club's income. So I'll use the phrase SCMP to avoid confusion with other types of FFP used in the Championship, the PL and the Champions League.

But to answer your question ..... yes and no!

Every League 1/League 2 club has to submit a SCMP statement signed off by a director or other responsible person to the EFL before the season starts of their likely income and their likely spending on payers' wages etc. Imo that's a bit of a joke since which club knows exactly what it will be paying out in players wages etc at that point and how many will be coming through the gates? It's almost a pointless exercise other than to establish a baseline for the clubs. Once the season starts, each club then has to submit an 'actual' SCMP statement to date and an estimate for the remainder of the season. Unless things are seriously out of kilter at a particular club, it's still a bit of a joke since there is still a lot of uncertainty about the remainder of the season. But it does allow the EFL to start to ask questions of particular clubs. From memory, the first so-called 'Mid-Season SCMP statement' is due in mid December covering the first four months or so of the season.

After the transfer window has closed, it starts to get a little more serious but is still dependent of the honesty and openness of the club. It's an important part of the SCMP regime that clubs have to notify the EFL if they expect to breach the SCMP rules. Whether they do is a matter of debate and I suspect there have been some clubs who have just ignored this. Bury would be a good example imo. If clubs are known to be having financial problems, such as not paying their players, the EFL is entitled to investigate, not that the club is in financial difficulties, but whether it has breached the SCMP rules! (The EFL can also investigate whether the club has sufficient funding to see it through the reminder of its fixtures). But even then, the only weapon the EFL has is to refuse to sanction further transfers and it's too late then for that to have any real effect in that season.

Just to complete the process, at the end of the year, every club has to submit a final SCMP statement and if any club is in breach of the rules, the sanctions on player transfers take effect in the following season. I don't recall any examples of that in the lower leagues other than the high profile ones which hit the media.

I'm hoping I've shown that it's not an ideal mechanism! In fact imo, it's piss poor governance by the EFL and allows situations like Bolton's, Bury's, Blackburn's, Forest's to escalate out of control and by the time anything can be done, the damage to the club and indeed the reputation of the EFL has happened. The EFL have tried to tighten the rules but all important rule changes have to be agreed by a large majority of the clubs and it never seems to get to that point.

If I was in control of this, I'd make it much tighter by making two changes. Firstly, I'd make it a personal offence for a director of a club to knowingly make a false SCMP statement or fail to inform the EFL if the SCMP rules are likely to be breached by the club. Secondly, I'd tighten up the Owners & Directors test to preclude anybody being involved in football management who has failed to comply with the SCMP, or wider FFP rules. That might force directors etc to be a little more careful when they are putting their names to false statements and help to improve football's atrocious record in governance matters. But I don't expect anything like that to happen in the near future!

For all the negatives both Miller and Doyle got in their time at ValeyParade my worry is at the moment if either Donaldson or Vaughan are out injured for any period of time we dont have cover.
Bowyer may have cover lined up but it seens reading the T&A the clubs who may release the players won't until they get a replacements in.....I believe that's a very sensible way of doing transfer business dont you ;)........Jim Bowen comes to mine " look what you could have won" or a bird in the hand etc.
