Can we stop all this bickering bollox? Used to love this forum, and have been on here (combined with the previous one) for nigh on fifteen years. I enjoy here! It gets me away from all the other angry buggers I face each day! I’m the only City fan out of 1.3 million who live here, so I count you lot as friends. Sad to see each post torn to pieces by those who have nothing better to do. Chill out, take each thread as a discussion and enjoy chatting with like minded folk.
After last season, things can only be going up, no need to be always looking at pulling people down. Message boards are message boards. Nothing more nothing less. If no one had differing opinions, it’d be pretty boring! Last thing we want after the shambles of Edin, is for people to be afraid of speaking out.

Got back 'home' just after lunch today.

Firstly, thanks to all for your good wishes, much appreciated.

18 days in a hospital bed is quite soul destroying, but I was in the safest place, having being piped and wired up to almost anything and everything.
It'll take a while for my ticker and brain to catch up, but hopefully I'll be back up to speed, soon.

 

Maybe it does matter. I've been at pains to protect the source of inside information because I wouldn't want to expose anyone, but it's been suggested that the club will sever ties with anyone breaking club confidentiality. And I'm nothing if not honest. So here goes.

I think Hanson bashing is demeaning I wouldn’t want him back now but he did a very good job for us for a long time. He had his ups and downs like all strikers but overall he was a credit to himself and the club

 

Can you let his counterpart at Woking know that Akpan is playing out of skin and could possibly be available - if the right offer came in.

 

I don't understand the fuss. Does anyone think that his decision is holding up what we're looking to do in terms of remaining business? We'll have offered him a low value contract and a chance to be part of a professional team. I'm guessing he's not swimming with offers and his decision is an important one - he'll likely have to decide between our offer and a contract in the non-leagues. Its an important decision, let him take however long he needs. And let him wait for what advisor he feels is right for him.Its one of those whereby if he turns it down, I don't see us going to sign a 'replacement'. Either he joins or he doesn't. We'll be after a couple more, first team ready players, and it'll probably depend on outgoing business. I don't see his deal as having any bearing at all.

Anthony O'Connor appears to have had a good pre season. If his attitude is as disruptive within the squad, as some fans believe, I doubt Bowyer would have tolerated and continue to select him.

So, I havent a problem if selected on merit

 

I was a big fan of Hanson during his time with us. Never understood the criticism he received from some fans. Hanson contributed to some of the best moments of my City supporting life. He is also in the top 3 of our all time goalscorers, so deserves far more respect than some are prepared to give him

All that said, I firmly believe we sold him at the right time, as he had peaked and had started an injury hampered decline.

Would I have him back?. Definitely not, I would prefer to remember his time with us from the 2013 era, and his partnership with Wells.

I do find it amusing though, that even after 18 months since he left us, he commands pages of debate amongst us. I suspect the likes of Eoin Doyle, will never do so

 

Wrong. Jake has no mental issues other than being depressed for being out so long with a PHYSICAL issue. I think and hope this is now behind him because GB has taken an interest in getting things right as opposed to ER and others who wrote him off because that was easy.

The departure of Todd is a real worry. Not because I feel strongly about what he's brought or could bring. But he's clearly the assistant that Bowyer wanted.

I understand that we have to cut our cloth accordingly. But we're a club that needs a significant rebuild and that brings a level of cost - a cost which Rupp must bear because he's accountable for why we've regressed so much, so quickly.

Any rebuild such as this has to start from the top - there may be some concessions which mean that we miss out on the odd player, or have to run with a smaller squad than we'd like. But we shouldn't be making any concession on the coaching and leadership team that are going to put us on the right track. In fact, I'd go higher than the manager - who's running the operational side of the club? Rhodes, presumably. The mans a wet blanket who doesn't exactly inspire.

I believe Bowyer's intent is sound and I think he's capable. But it's too big for one man to take on - I don't for a second think we have the right plan or capability within the football club to undo the damage that's been done. Certainly not quickly.

I'm going to be a head-in-sander for now, refusing to hear the illegitimate calls for his head. I upset a poster on here for suggesting these knee jerk sack-mongers are just Rahicites-without-realising-it - but that's just what they are. They are following the Edin pattern of sack, fail, struggle, repeat but won't admit they've been influenced by the worst era in our history. They have, or they wouldn't be looking for yet another manager given how many have done so badly.

Bowyer is quite clearly superior to Hopkin and Collins, and while Grayson is a solid manager, even he looked like a dribbling idiot under the circumstances surrounding the club. Bowyer, like Grayson, will need a bit of time to straighten things out - and unlike Grayson, he's actually willing to do it. We should probably let him.

 

I may be completely wrong but when signings arrive early it gives the impression that the manager got who he wanted, the players wanted to come and it makes me feel more positive about things rather than a situation where we're scratching around at the last minute dragging people in.

 

That’s one of the best things about this forum. Rarely any overly generalised sweeping statements thrown about.
