To be fair i know the people around us since i started taking my lad 6 or 7 years ago. Good group of people apart from @Ricc.

Quite easily I think. As in " That player would be quality, if he wasn't always in the physio room". Quality is more than just running up and down the wing, or scoring goals - its about the overall game, which includes consistency, stamina and fitness.

As strange comment, is one calling Scannell the best winger in League 2. On what basis is that comment made?

 

I think Scannell flatters to deceive tbh he really needs to up his game if people are going to throw around comments like best winger in the league.

Like with Doyle people mention records from years ago at previous clubs. That’s fair enough if you’ve just signed someone, there’s no other way to judge. But we’ve seen these players for a full season, more than enough time to make our own judgements. It’s like some fans don’t realise that injuries and time take their toll on sportsmen, what someone did years ago can easily be redundant now.

 

I think it's just a money thing Idle. The quote in the T&A recently said we're close to the 50% budget/mark so I inferred that we needed to let someone go to get someone in. I'm not sure it's like the loan scenario where you can have 7 but only play 5, I'm guessing the 50% is a red line that just can't be ignored.

 

Totally agree! We've had a load of players over the years who could be voted best player in X league because of their previous seasons. Lee Hendrie, Keith Gillespie, Steve Claridge -all top players in their HAY DAY, but were distinctly bit part players for us.
What I've seen of Scannell is a bit stop start. He started looking decent, but then got injured. Came back when we were already a deflated side, and this season has been on the bench. I always think he looks a bit too big built for a winger. Doesn't seem to have lightning pace, but at least he gets to the by-line and looks to cross it. Don't get me wrong - I can't wait for him to get a regular starting spot and show us what he can do, but for now, like you, I'm still thinking he hasn't really got going.
Footnote: I notice this lad we're rumoured to be signing from Bolton is also a bit injury prone.

 

Makes you wonder how Bury got away with it a couple of seasons ago when they were clearly crossing that red line. I know they are paying the cost now but why weren't they held to account about it at the time?

 

I am nervous of bringing in more injury prone players. I would prefer a young un tbh. I know they lack consistency, but you have to look at Scannell last season who was out for the duration.

 

We're Bradford City. Signing crocked players is what we do and we're bloody successful at it too.

 

Why not bring back George Miller from Barnsley on loan, Should be cheap and be better in League 2,

No thanks. He was poor the first time around. Some of those misses last season.... Christ on a bike, they were harder to miss!

 

Do you get done for a breach of FFP or whatever it is in our league after the event? So when you file your accounts?

 

Something to do with looking like he couldn’t play football with us last time would be my reason. I’m not against bringing a young lad on loan, but I’d rather try someone who hasn’t been a failure with us. We still have to much crap from last season as it is, without bringing more in.

I’d rather see us bring Edmondson in from Leeds.

 

No idea but judging by what went on with Bury, quite possibly. Maybe they thought it was a risk worth taking - that worked out well!

 

I agree Scannell is big for a winger but I quite like that if he uses it.. What he does seem to do to me is when he gets to the line he prefers to drill it in low, which again I think is a good thing, but our forwards need to gamble on it and attack the near post. I have no doubt that if he stays injury free he'll be a great asset this season...IF

 

Yet a decent return at Bury 8 goals in 19 games, not that I'm suggesting bringing him back.

 

Scannell is always going to be seen as the guy with Championship pedigree who's going to tear up this division. It's not going to happen, but if you compare him with other wingers in the league I still maintain that we have a good league 2 player on our books.
