Rahic was a disaster for us. It's fairly well documented that Parkinson left because he couldn't get on with him, and he was far from the only person to have issues with him. Rahic pretty much single handedly destroyed the progress that had been made under Parkinson. At least Rupp eventually listened to the fans and moved him on.
I don't like knocking Rhodes, because he is the most committed City fan you could ever find. I very much doubt that anybody on here would back the club to the same extent that he and his family have, both in time and money. We owe them our gratitude, because there very possibly wouldn't still be a club without them.
That said, Julian Rhodes is not the man you want in charge of a football club. He doesn't have the ability to drive the club forward. The only time that City moved forwards with Julian involved was with Richmond, and later Lawn, at the helm. Rupp putting Julian back in charge was about steadying the ship with a readily available alternative, but it was never going to bring us success.
I can well believe that the combination of Rahic and Rhodes having spells as Chairman knocked us back 5 years.
Whether Ryan Sparks is the man to move us forwards again remains to be seen, and to be frank it isn't going to be massively down to him anyway. If Rupp is not prepared to put more than maintenance financing in - and he has no obligation to do so - then making progress in the medium to long term is going to be difficult for anyone in charge.

My point in all this, and I agree with Fordy on this, we should be targeting managers who are doing well at other so called smaller clubs.Ponty City, Rogered Tart, Tight1-0Victory and 3 others like this. -

Failure to deliver on all fronts will inevitably have far more damaging implications to our football club going forward, on and off the field.

I just can't see them selling many season tickets with these two at the helm. People have got out of the habit of attending, times are harder, the football on offer is shocking. There's little to persuade people beyond the price. Even I, a ST holder since the cheap ones first went on sale, are struggling to see myself attending once a fortnight with these two still in charge. I'd rather pay more, watch less live games and find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon. I'm not wasting my time when the enjoyment and entertainment is substandard, whatever the price.

I was overjoyed at what T&S initially achieved but I think there are massive dangers in sticking with them. They look lost and uninspiring and it is damning on everyone at the club that everyone appears to have switched off about a month ago. As a coach I know one of the easier things to do it to make a team more difficult to beat and T&S received massive credit for achieving this and finding a way to nick results in the early part of their reign. But they and the players have failed massively when an opportunity to really make a mark came their way – I feel for the young managers but their press conferences have become very placid and strange affairs. We need a big shake up now because there are just too many people at VP with a losing mentality, or at least without a winning mentality.
One thing I would really like to ask Ryan is what was the message to T&S and players when we were well away from the bottom and in with a real chance to have a go at the play offs – Ryan wants to be a winner so surely he must have recognised that an opportunity was there but we have just collapsed miserably. If it has just ultimately prove that very few of them are good enough then fair enough but that is why we cannot go into next season with this mentality hanging over the club. Ryan should have no qualms over his decision to appoint T&S – at that point they had more than deserved it by galvanising the club, making us competitive and getting results – but we have been found out once teams realised letting us have the ball and adapting a lower press would mean we had nothing to hurt them. We have shown nothing to overcome this and my view is Ryan needs to follow his ambition and winning instinct (rather than hold his nerve) and do what I am convinced he knows is the RIGHT decisionInspector, Ponty City, meelin and 3 others like this. -

Why are people getting so bothered by Hurst's comments about this?
In his post match interview Trueman himself said that they were surprised by Grimsby's system so we had to try and change things on the go and by common consent we were dreadful, so it's hardly outlandish for Hurst to say so!Bronco, vladimir, Ollylondonbantam and 2 others like this. -
