T&S..... sacked

The difference is we scored one they scored nil so their tactics didn’t work did they. I think O’Donnell had one save to make all match. So the masters tactic didn’t work

 

Wouldn’t be bad if we could play all 46 games at home, certainly a good record. With fans there though will it be so easy with grumbling voices, as there were when we played similar under Bowyer.

 

We played open football with McCall I didn’t see people shouting from the rooftops then. The fact is we are scoring goals despite the fact our two main midfield players are injured and we are conceding very little. I am sure we will strengthen midfield in summer but I think the transformation of the team through one window will be appreciated when fans are in the ground

 

I think we are a boring side currently and they are safe. Play not to lose!

I just think that they will get found out next season. We have a chance this but pressure on next season because we want automatic if we don't go up this.

Next season is massive! We have to go up if we are haven't this season.

 

I am not sure how much the limited squad and the injuries to the better players , affect the current playing style. it is far too early in their management tenure to judge and say they play safe, i think its horses for courses at the present time.

 

They're still learning and from a development point of view they'd probably benefit from another season in league 2 because the next level up won't be as easy. Playing safe and pedestrian is OK at the moment, but if we're pressed we don't have enough confident players to get out of a fix. As for Hurst, he's panicking because the games are running out. Although, he's probably not too far away with his assessment.

 

You’re right people aren’t happy when we’re losing as we were under McCall, but modern fans are demanding and it’s an entertainment based industry. My comments are based on relatively recent experience. Under Bowyer we were never out of the top 7 yet he was literally hounded out of the club, and tbh so far this football is no more entertaining. The win was the only thing that mattered today. But at half time when we were given a gift of them going down to ten men, to be at home against bottom of the league on top of that I was shocked at just how poor we were going forward. Even our ott positive commentary team were wanting to see more attacking football and sounded bored.

I don't always understand or agree with the lineups, tactics or decisions made by T&S, but to compare them unfavourably with Bowyer is bizarre. We were going nowhere under Bowyer. Our goals had completely dried up, we were losing games and drawing against terrible sides that season like Orient and Barrow who were there to be beaten. Our trajectory was downwards, team morale was poor and we were destined for mid table, where we finished anyway after McCall replaced Bowyer.

Compare that with T&S, who have dragged us from relegation candidates to 3 points off the playoffs with auto promotion form since they took over.
We may not make the playoffs - I think we'll fall slightly short - but if we don't it will be because of McCall's terrible start, not because of T&S.

 

Its a slightly strange one for me. Many of our performances under T&S haven't been what you'd call convincing. Our use of the ball can be disjointed, we look vulnerable on set pieces, which we concede too many of and whilst we look a good side when we do play on the front foot and press teams - we don't do it enough. We seem to give opponents too much respect which doesn't jive with the mindset of a top 3 side. All of which make me question T&S for next season.

And yet, despite the fact that we can all see 2 or 3 areas of the side that need to improve, the league table for the 23 games that T&S have had, would have us top.

 

Yesterday's starting eleven lacked very little composure on the ball and when we did have possession there was no apparent outlet or spark to conjure up an attack.
Grimsby were made to look a better side at times but failed miserably to capitalise on stupid and needless free kicks given away in good area's of the pitch.
Whilst three points is welcome at any stage of the season yesterday's performance was well below par.
Crawley our next opponents haven't won in seven so at a guess they will pack their defence hoping to hit us on the counter, surely we can muster a team who will go forward over 90 minutes instead of resorting to this evident need to pass the ball back when in the opposition's half.

For me under T & S I just think we will get found out next season if we don't go up this and I think you explained why perfectly.

With fans back(hopefully) I think it will be too much for them and we can't be playing this Bowyer boring football.

 

In early December under Bowyer before the rot set in and he went on the run that got him sacked, there was still a poor atmosphere around the place and we were top 5. People don’t have to agree with me but o don’t enjoy this football one bit as I didn’t then, maybe it’s Covid that has realigned my priorities. But the thought of going back to VP and watching this style of football I’ve watched the last few months doesn’t interest me at all, sport is an entertainment business and an added luxury in life. I get zero enjoyment out of it atm even wins, and I’ll be interested to see if we don’t improve our performance levels when fans are back in their reaction to games like yesterday. Hopefully they just need a full pre season and a few additions to make us more watchable whilst maintaining results however and we’re playing this way due to limited personal and time on the training pitch.

Defensive soundness other than a couple of matches has been the key at the moment we are compensating from having our first choice midfield out by keeping it tight and digging out results quite successfully
