I hear what you're saying, but I'd take a lucky 1-0 win in every game to the end of the season if it gets us out of this division.

We are struggling badly for creativity without Cooke in the team. And Sutton's injury has robbed us of pace and energy in the centre. Having the Don at 10 has improved things somewhat, but it's obvious that we are going to be woefully short of creative midfield options until the close season transfer window. We clearly need a big midfield upgrade for next season, whichever division were in.

I can only assume that T&S are taking the pragmatic route of keeping it very tight - trying (and succeeding so far) to grind out wins because they don't believe we have the resources to play a more expansive game without getting caught on the break.

I think you're being very hopeful if you're expecting many more lucky 1-0 wins! Yesterday's result coupled with yesterday's performance is the exception rather than the rule.

People were quoting Man City’s stats against Leeds yesterday as an argument that performances don’t matter. It’s nonsense Man City are top of the league by a mile because of stats like that week in week out, of course even if you play well every week you won’t win every game that’s football. But as we saw in McCalls second spell in his second season and with Bowyer, eventually if you play poor every week it catches up with you. We simply need to improve, not sure why some are so defensive about it, it’s something we need to do to improve and go for promotion be it this season or next. We can’t rely on luck every week and making minimum of chances.

If we miss out on goal difference, don’t you think that would be down to an horrific first 16 games of the season under Stu when we conceded goals for fun rather than blame Trueman and Sellars for only winning 1-0.

    Exactly.

If we don't get into the play-offs, it won't have been because of the 45 points we've already gained under T&S in the past half-season. It will be because of the puny 13 points we achieved in the first third of the season under the previous manager!

I think yesterday was the first time anybody could have described us lucky to win. Unlike us at Newport and with the number of chances we had Carlisle. We were winning against a full side at half time and whilst no one can argue it was a flowing performance apart from the first 20 minutes we never looked like losing

Yes but we cant change that , this is why we need to get our fingers out now against 10 men at the bottom of the league

Get rowe and cooke on together with two wingers and get at them

That's the great thing about a match like yesterday's, we got the vital 3 points and there's so much we can learn and improve from that game.

And yes, when they were down to 10, I'd like to have seen us play with both Cook and Rowe, as well as getting some pace on.

With our poor goal difference, we are in effect a point down on most teams around us. Carlisle, Salford both on 58 points with us, are effectively a point ahead. Exeter are uncatchable, we would have to better them by a point.

That's right, we started 2nd half with a 1 man advantage against the bottom club1-0 up but left the 3 most creative players at the club on the bench....

Nobody knows if Trueman and Sellers have it in them to get a team promoted Fordy, not even them, they have never had the opportunity before now.
If we don't go up this season, which I don't think anyone realistically expects us to, the test will be the run up to Christmas after the summer recruitment.
It would be the same if we had brought in an experienced manager/coach. There are not guarantees in football.

Interesting to hear Trueman afterwards saying still didnt want to risk losing the 3 points in chasing a 2nd goal - as you say this is a major area where we can improve but can you honestly blame him. We were crap up to November and in one transfer window we have become competitive, hard to beat and picked up a mass of points - but there is still so much to do and whilst this is the challenge ahead for T&S its a pretty good place to be in.
One other thing from yesterday, Wood should have at least half a dozen goals to his name this season and I am not talking about half chances - he really should have scored more (there is a personal challenge Connor ;)). But credit to him, he hardly ever misses a minute of playing time

If we lost that game it would be for sitting back not playing high and taking the game to them

Why play on the break and pass backwards all the time , at some point we need sustained pressure when a man and a goal up

Can't cut it in the big boys club? - what a load of cr@p. We're just outside a playoff spot and they're as good as down. We got lucky yesterday but I know which position I'd rather be in. Grimsby have done f all since his return and I couldn't give a toss what he thinks about us. He's clearly trying to deflect from the embarrassment of yesterday's game!
