Bang on the money Andy, these are my sentiments entirely. To me, i'd rather spend the extra on a season ticket than a shirt or merchandise from the club because the season ticket money goes direct to the club whereas the club only makes a very small percentage of the sale of shirt.

    Doh!

Is it 3 maybe 4 years ago that Luton were a National league side? And I only used them as an example of team In a town/city not that dissimilar in make up to Bradford.

My point was made in argument to the poster who said that we should oppose a salary cap as we had ‘big gates’ and should use them to our advantage.

My point was that it isn’t about ‘big gates’ it’s about revenue, money, as this is what gives you the wherewithal to out bid, out compete, financially out muscle your competition.
    Nice but incredibly naive.

It’s all about the money. In the main those with money will rise and stay at the top (whatever top that is) and those without have a chance of touching it but will ultimately fall.

At our level £1M extra revenue is absolutely huge and reduces the reliance on the owner putting his or her hand in their pocket each year.

Yes it needs to be spent right, managed right but it is still the basis of everything.

In my opinion we are deliberately tying one hand behind our own backs by continuing to offer such ridiculously cheap STs.

I agree. It's all in the timing. We missed a great opportunity to raise the price of STs after our success in the play-offs but for some strange reason chose not to do so. And that sums up the club at times. Getting the timing wrong and missing a golden opportunity to raise a little more money when the fans are on a high having been promoted.

Given that a concussed slug has more speed of thought than the EFL, then surely now is the time to sign reasonable players, to build a squad for next season. This could be done before the introduction of:
    • Budget cap at £1.5million
    • Limit on size of squad
    • Home developed player requirement.
Not rocket science, but surely the club could demonstrate some reasonable ambition. An analogy is driving on the M62 for miles at 30mph, because you know that when you come off, you will have to slow down to that speed.

    Operate within the current regulations!

    Agree fully with you all.
It’s looking like we will be at back of the queue in the bargain bin again. Rhodes needs to be moved off of any negotiations and with money being tight we’d be better hiring a director of football to sort out transfers for us. With McCall’s blessing

That would rely on us being a well run, professional and ambitious outfit.

    Good luck with that.

You should be happy with the likes of Clarke, Devine, McMahon, Doyle coming back, they might take us down then we can start rebuilding from non league for a brighter future.

Be happy with Clarke, he’s an excellent footballer. He wasn’t his best in his second spell, but name 1 player who was in that period of time after Rahics wrecking ball had fecked us up?

Heavy pitches don’t suit him but I’d rather have Clarke in and around the starting 11 then some of the clowns we’ve had the past 3 years.

Clarke would be a good signing in my eyes. Local guy, knows the club, knows the manager. There were flashes in his spell under Bowyer, but think McCall can get the best out of him. It’s as much about having the right people in the dressing room as on the pitch. I don’t think he would necessarily start every week, but looking at the bigger picture as a squad player he’s a valuable person to have around in my view.

All it means is any player has an offer nearby will take it. London based was just an example of that.
Why are you so sure players will come to us? Under a salary cap? We struggled to get our main targets in January and ended up with a load of shite. Same will happen this summer

Said it a few times on here, players don’t particularly care who they play for, or at what level (especially lower league), it’s who pays them the most money. Richie Towell went from playing games in the Champ for Rotherham to signing for Salford - purely fiscal decision. Deluded if you think a player will join us if, for example Eastleigh offered a grand a week more - the majority don’t care about the stadia and fan base, I know I wouldn’t, extra £50k a year OR play in front of 14,000 fans.... tough decision.

No. I think you're getting confused with what the PL said might be a consequence of a salary cap in the lower leagues on their own youngsters. A couple of PL clubs said they might have to loan their developing players out for nothing if the salary cap is introduced and doesn't make provision for encouraging younger players. As it is currently, under 21 players may not be part of the salary cap nor part of any limit on squad numbers. We'll know better once the details have been agreed at the end of the month.

You mean like faffing around in central midfield where we already have 2/3 other central midfielders and there's no space while he leaves his alleged strike partner isolated miles up the pitch. Yep, that worked well.

I think Holloway would be a good manager for us. He seems to get the best out of what he has.

Decide on the system you want as a manager then recruit accordingly. Bowyer never had a system at all, the one time he came close was when he went ultra defensive and eeked out a few results but it was painful viewing. First and foremost you need a central defensive pairing that want to work together and a player that anchors midfielder. That midfielder never arrived and the 3 CBs never complemented each other. Worryingly we're still stuck with those three.
