Good age those two. Be more excited about watt than Sutton. Sutton hardly played for Scunthorpe last season. Was he injured or couldn’t get in a bad side?

Said it a few times on here, players don’t particularly care who they play for, or at what level (especially lower league), it’s who pays them the most money. Richie Towell went from playing games in the Champ for Rotherham to signing for Salford - purely fiscal decision. Deluded if you think a player will join us if, for example Eastleigh offered a grand a week more - the majority don’t care about the stadia and fan base, I know I wouldn’t, extra £50k a year OR play in front of 14,000 fans.... tough decision.

Towell was at Brighton, only on loan at Rotherham, and joined a super rich club in the EFL, not a non league side.

Salford will likely spend their way to promotions, whereas nobody in National League currently will.

He joined a club with unlimited potential, as opposed to a club with prospects of League Two football like Eastleigh.

He was also not rated at Brighton where he was seen as overhyped. I don't remember him standing out much for Salford.

I don't think it is dross. I think it is exactly what I expect to get at that level and I really don't think that having a 'cap' in place is actually going to affect the 'quality' much at all.

It is going to mean that footballers at the level lower their salary expectations. Which will mean that some of them move off into other professions. It may mean that footballers become more regional. They don't move from one end of the country to the other because they can get a much, much better deal somewhere else because all the deals will become much the same.

It is also going to mean, and this is a very important point, that there will be much more emphasis on management, coaching and talent scouting. These roles are likely to be outside of the cap and will become in my opinion a huge differentiator club to club. Average managers, non existent coaching, poor player scouting can be hidden behind money. Didn't work, get another.

Managers won't be able, to the same extent, complain that they couldn't compete because X, Y or Z had a much higher budget. They own the management, coaching and scouting...and have the same budget as everyone else.

I believe as a result it should/could mean that the leagues are much more competitive and ..... dare I say it.... entertaining.

    I am all for it.

I like your sentiment and I agree. It would be good but that’s only if all leagues outside the prem are restricted to a tiered salary cap. Otherwise you will get players going to non league or Scotland or sitting in championship reserves on better money they can earn lower down.
You might say well we don’t want them players but you’d be hard pressed to find players who will come here in the current climate. Money talks

If we only make 5 signings and we have 3 lined up with Sutton, Clarke and watts(?) if that’s his name, we are going to need some serious quality on loan otherwise we have a weak squad.

Don't forget DMH and OD if they sign.
Get your drift though looks a tad threadbare from a quality perspective.

I don't think that was ever agreed, just mooted as an idea from a couple of chairmen.

No. I think you're getting confused with what the PL said might be a consequence of a salary cap in the lower leagues on their own youngsters. A couple of PL clubs said they might have to loan their developing players out for nothing if the salary cap is introduced and doesn't make provision for encouraging younger players. As it is currently, under 21 players may not be part of the salary cap nor part of any limit on squad numbers. We'll know better once the details have been agreed at the end of the month.

Think @Dennis@Dennis @bantam2708@bantam2708 have it right and it was an idea they talked about. Nothing set in stone.
Most go with expectation full wages are paid now even if they don’t play.
