I don't know why anyone is shocked! We've got a history of doing this. Announcing and then denouncing "potential targets", while creeping some half rate player through the back door. I'm suprised there hasn't been some cryptic photograph or klaxon image popping up on the club website, coupled with a #hescominghome hashtag.

What is disturbing is that we would doubt the Manager's judgement imo. Even if once again his hands should be tied. Bleak picture without trust, the past has gone and we are faced with the present (unfortunately).

 

EH? who has talked about signing Marcus Maddison? Hes Championship bound. Correct me if I wrong I believe you wouldn't want him here.

As for Spearing he should be a realistic target and everything we need. He has only played for northern clubs, he was playing for a mid table table team div 1 team, hes in his early 30's, he is Darby's best mate. Just like Vaughan and Donaldson could be willing to drop down to div 2 if he see's the right project.

Yes, Spearing might not sign but he 100% is a realistic target.

 

I'd ask for the change.

If Billy Clarke players centre mid then we've just as many, if not more problems than last season.

I'd be amazed if Clarke even plays alongside Vaughan. He'll be the first we're looking to ship out.

 

A quick nosey on the Fishy Forum, and the Grimsby fans seem to rate him as their brightest spark last season, and are sorry that he will not be extending his stay there.

Maybe he can still do a decent job at league 2 level?

Let's not start lowering our standards even more.

Holloway took over them and they were struggling then they went on a little run so fans are happy but we are meant to be going for promotion.

An ageing, slower and injury prone Billy Clake isn't the answer now.

 

Don't get me wrong Fordy, I am not exactly enthused by the possible return of Billy Clarke, he did a good job for us in his first spell, but I do think it is a backward step, but then again, I thought the appointment of Stuart McCall for his 3rd spell as manager was a lazy, backward step

 

In what world can we not question the manager as fans? His recruitment in his spells as manager has always been patchy at best and that’s been generous. He’s not a good judge of a player imo and his play off team was largely built for him. That’s not to say I don’t think he can do a good job but I do think someone else needs to be in charge of scouting players for him. Otherwise we end up with Clarke et al.

Looking back @Idlebantam once Parky walked the club have made some very poor calls with regards managers/coaches, they hadn't a clue who to approach once Parky walked and got lucky that Julian suggested McCall.
The second season under McCall was going well even though Rahic had shifted players McCall wanted to stay out of the club, we were still in a good position for a play off place.
When Stuart was sacked Grayson looked the ideal candidate, previous promotions just needed to get the players back onside unfortunatly that was not going to happen as long as, Rahic was running the club.
Grayson was no mug he could see what was happening at the club and declined the offer to continue, we were told there were some excellent candidates being interviewed and we finish up with Collins, Drury and Abbott giving advice as an ex manager with experience.
As most recognised those appointments were never going to work and 6 games into the new season we sack the coach and appoint Hopkin, he inherited a poor squad with a few bad eggs and struggled to get any sort of consistency from them and walked, enter Bowyer we can only assume that was because of his time at Blackpool, again we were still there or there abouts so an easy fix was Stuart again.
This coming season is in my opinion the biggest challenge the club has had for many a year with off field things having a big influence going forward.
For me we have to get a play off place at least we can't continue in this league, talking with another 60 year fan we both agreed we had little appetite for football and never been less enthusiastic about football and our club in particular.
So although I agree Stuart was a shoe in with the position we were still in when Bowyer got sacked, with our resent past record of appointing managers it was possibly the right one.

 

I don't want to piss on your bonfire, but Stuart McCall still needs to do something successful in his 3rd spell as manager

 

We can’t lower our standards to Grimsby as technically we are both equal - we’re in League 2, so are they.

 

Clarke would be a good signing in my eyes. Local guy, knows the club, knows the manager. There were flashes in his spell under Bowyer, but think McCall can get the best out of him. It’s as much about having the right people in the dressing room as on the pitch. I don’t think he would necessarily start every week, but looking at the bigger picture as a squad player he’s a valuable person to have around in my view.

 

Thats a fair point is that. Law would probably be an upgrade whether you like him or not.

7 goals, 7 assists - we would have probably finished in the play offs with that this term.
