I love Sultan's curry house. Beats any other for me in Bradford. I believe they're opening up a new site down the road near My Thai.

Just got back from having lunch at Quinta, on Wells Rd in Ilkley. Also went there last Sunday. Both times we just called in on spec after a walk. They have a covered outside area with several tables and patio heaters keeping it cosy on nippy days like today.
    I really like this place.
Today I had gnocchi in a creamy blue cheese sauce with sun dried tomatoes - absolutely delicious. Ms Offy had tempura prawns and daughter had chicken skewers - all very good. Last Sunday I had yummy calamari with alioli and Ms Offy had asparagus soup - both excellent.
On both occasions we only wanted a light lunch, but with the complimentary mini loaves to start we ended up feeling quite full.
They have a set lunch menu, but aren't precious about you ordering single dishes from it, as well as a lighter bites menu. They also have a different Sunday lunch menu with decent fish and veggie options as well as meat.
When we were there last Sunday the people on the next table were ordering from the Sunday lunch menu. One ordered roast beef and the waitress asked him how he would like it cooked, which is always a good sign and pretty unusual for a Sunday lunch, where you often get what you're given off a big joint. The family said they go there often and in their opinion it is the best Sunday lunch to be had in Ilkley.
I shall certainly be going back for the full Sunday lunch at some point.

Should have posted a reply to this a while ago, I went up to the International, took a bottle of white wine, the place was rammed at 17-30 so a good sign, jumped straight into the main courses, Mrs Meltham had a lamb saag, naan, which whilst ok was standard restaurant stuff. I ordered a Desi Lamb, OMG one of the best curry dishes I’ve ever had, the lamb was served on the bone and melted in your mouth the sauce was spicy without being overpowering, I’m already looking for an excuse to go back.
Also long overdue a night out in Brighouse, so will put the Royal Delhi on our radar!

Reminds me of my mum's braised steak and chips with onions with gravy. Mopping up the gravy with crusty bread, quite beautiful.

What did you reckon, @How@How ?

I thought it was excellent and no surprise that the national critics have taken a shine.

Money isn't everything, but value is, and last week we ate at the Hawthorn in Haworth. I like the place although it seems a little less ambitious than a previous visit. Anyway, a shared starter (fish platter thing), plus 2 mains and a bottle of summat came to about £100 there. It was very decent.

However at Engine there were numerous plates of this and that (I usually swerve small plates places unless it's just 2 of us) plus a bottle of cremant and 2 pints for about 15 quid less. It felt like really good value for some quality cooking.

If anyone on here is ever looking for an Indian restaurant in Inverness I recommend Mangrove. We had an excellent meal there on Sunday.

Ventured to The Waterside in Shipley yesterday for their 5 course tasting menu. OH is usually wary of tasting menus as he reckons portion sizes are too small and you taste something you like and it has gone in an instant. We once went to L'Enclume in Cartmel for someone's special birthday celebration and he and another friend reckoned they could have eaten fish and chips after the 10 courses were finished.
Anyway, not so at the Waterside. We had a deep fried king prawn appetiser. First course was a blue cheese and walnut souffle with salad. This was a wonderful light dish full of flavour and the salad dressing superb. The fish course was coley fillet with romanesco. The meat course was beef cooked two ways with confit potatoes, leeks and a lovely sauce. The beef was a medium rare fillet and a slow cooked ox cheek that was lovely.
Pudding was a fruit tart, with strawberry, blackberry and raspberry on pistachio cream with a beautiful thin pastry.
An excellent meal for a special occasion.

Went back to the Waterside in Shipley last week. Good stuff, as usual.
For those who think the menu is too small, they are now running two menus - a five course tasting menu and an a la carte, with about six choices per course. In my book, that is plenty. Too much choice just leaves me bamboozled.

Forgot to post this. Stayed in Helmsley a couple of weeks ago. Saw there was a restaurant called Bantam, so how could I resist? It was good, without blowing me away. The beef shin Ragu pappardelle was very tasty.

Hern in Leeds made for a really good lunch dinner yesterday. 25 quid for three courses on a Sat'day with the option of a couple of extras that we naturally took them up on.

Panisse were fries made of polenta (always thought panisse were chickpeas but won't split hairs) - creamy centre, crunchy outer. 6 quid.

Quo Vadis in London has a posh smoked eel sandwich on the menu all the time, and they've done one here, meaty fish & sharp pickles, for 4 quid.

Then there was a pearl barley risotto, confit lamb and a thick chocolate mousse. Not on the same plate.

    Top stuff.

There's a cracking Lebanese place in Leeds called Mogador. Only had food delivered to work from there but if that was anything to go by....the restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

I have been meaning to mention a very good Indian restaurant in Ilkley but keep forgetting.
It is an actual Indian restaurant, rather than a Kashmiri or Pakistani one that is more usual in Bradford.
It is Sachi's Restaurant, it is in the modern shopping centre next to the main Ilkley car park. We have had several good meals there. They do the regular things that local customers expect but have quite a few dishes not often seen. They always have some interesting specials, the last time I went I had a soft shelled crab starter that was delicious.

The food at San Carlo is very good but it does attract more than it's share of knobs :brig:. Sometimes the staff are brilliant, then other times you feel ignored while they are gushing all over the regulars. Buon Apps in Otley also offers a little more than your standard Italian, although a bit heavy in the salt last time. Our current favourites are Stuzzi near the Grand and Zucco in Meanwood. Both have a regular changing menu of non-standard dishes. Where's @millario@millario .... you need to get out more I'm doing your job here :joy:
