A new one on me. People were making all the right noises about Brontaes in Horsforth but it appears to have gone. The Reliance in Leeds is closing too.

    Tough times.

Look forward to your Manchester Reports. Our usuals are Restaurant 63, El Gato Negro, and Cicchetti.

El Gato is on the potentials list. Mates went to Cicchetti recently - solid option isn't it. V good at what they do.

Restaurant 63 a new one on me.

Forgot to post this. Stayed in Helmsley a couple of weeks ago. Saw there was a restaurant called Bantam, so how could I resist? It was good, without blowing me away. The beef shin Ragu pappardelle was very tasty.

Brontaes was the architect of it's own downfall. Only open I think 4 days a week and latest booking time 7pm with instructions to be there for 6.45.....it just wasn't that good

Hern in Leeds made for a really good lunch dinner yesterday. 25 quid for three courses on a Sat'day with the option of a couple of extras that we naturally took them up on.

Panisse were fries made of polenta (always thought panisse were chickpeas but won't split hairs) - creamy centre, crunchy outer. 6 quid.

Quo Vadis in London has a posh smoked eel sandwich on the menu all the time, and they've done one here, meaty fish & sharp pickles, for 4 quid.

Then there was a pearl barley risotto, confit lamb and a thick chocolate mousse. Not on the same plate.

    Top stuff.

Forgot to mention that I nipped to Manchester for a gig a couple of weeks ago on the same day Jay Rayner's review of Climat in that very city came out.

Expected it to be rammed but it was early so I nabbed a seat at the bar. A flying visit, so had an oyster and a vol-au-vent at the bar with a glass of wine.

Will definitely return, not just for the vol-au-vent (prawn cocktail) but the whole menu looked cracking. The views over the city are superb.

The Manchester trip was a bit of a fly-by, the focus being on a few beers before the gig.

Bundobust is very good for that.

Paid a visit this week with work colleagues.

    Very disappointing.

I had Seekh Kebab for starter which was very good actually.

I had Chicken and Keema Karahi for main course. It was the worst curry I've probably ever had. It was so bland and there were bits of gristle in the mince, it was awful.

Still haven't bettered Kiplings at Greengates for quality of food and value for money.

Suffice to say, I shall not return

Did I hear right that Prashad is about £70 a head for veggie with no alcohol?
