Went to a gig in Leeds last night and ate beforehand at the snappily titled, 'The Restaurant, Bar & Grill' in City Square. It was excellent.
I had a very tasty tuna tartare starter, with avocado and soy wasabi dressing.
Other half didn't have a starter but had tikka spiced sea bass, plus French style peas, shallots & cream, which she said was very good.
My main was slow roast crispy duck with wok fried pak choi and sesame seeds. Plus a side of chips. This was truly gorgeous. Beautifully cooked and possibly the best tasting duck dish I've ever had.
With a very decent bottle of Nero D'avola (£22.75) the bill came to £95.04, including £8.64 service charge. The service was friendly, helpful and prompt, without being in your face.
For three dishes and a bottle it's a bit on the pricey side. But it was just what the doctor ordered. We will undoubtedly go back there again.

The food is always consistently good I've found, and the old post office makes a spectacular dining room. My wife loves it for people watching...you do get some complete nobs in the bar.
Some years ago there was a survey, i think in the Leeds Northside mag. The RBG was in the top 3 pulling spots for middle aged people in Leeds. Oh no...I called it the RBG....I'm turning into one of those nobs . Next I'll be growing what little hair I have left and pulling it into a pony tale. Joking aside never had a bad meal there.

We didn't see the dining room as we ate outside. Good to hear it's consistently high standard and we didn't just get them on a good day.

I was meant to go a couple of weeks ago and mentioned it when the new owner came in. Chef's formerly of St John in London, class act.

    Lovely spot too.

While I'm here, I ate at Forest Side up in the Lakes on Friday. A birthday treat to the missus. Elegant hotel but not stuck in the past, and superb restaurant to boot.

I usually swerve the multi-course Michelin places but this was a very good 'un.

Saturday went to the highly acclaimed Nusret Shawarma on Manningham Lane. Chicken shawarma, probably made with free range chicken or summat, fresh salad that Alan Titchmarsh would have been proud of and two small naan type bready things. Washed down with a 2022 vintage sparking carbonated beverage from the Pepsi region. £6 English pounds for this veritable feast fit for a king. Parking not a problem, just park anywhere you want, in the middle of the road, on the pavement etc.

Very nice location. Coin Clipper land!

You could get the train and then a gentle walk. About 45 minutes from Mytholmroyd Station.

We haven’t been for about four years, when it was undergoing its ‘string of owners’.

The food was poor then and the interior quite tired.

However it had a lot of potential so worth a try.

It is a JW Lees house, the beer being very much an acquired taste (not marmite, but you either like it or can just about tolerate it).

Had lunch at Skosh in York today. I loved it. It is a small sharing plates menu, they recommend 6 plates for 2.
Cost was £80 for 2, including 1 glass of wine and 1 beer. Service on top. Not cheap but excellent quality. Same menu at lunch and dinner. We did choose the most expensive dish too.
Favourite dishes were lobster broth dumplings with pickled ginger; cauliflower pakora with mint, tamarind and yogurt; and tandoori pigeon with kohlrabi slaw, lime and vanilla.

OH as usual said he would prefer a full size plate to himself, but liked the dishes too.
Thought it was imaginative and out of the ordinary.

They do special deals at lunch time. You need to prepare in advance to see what's on offer. Last time OH went with friends they had to be really persistent to get the published offer, but did in the end.

Went to a place last week called Lost and Found in Leeds. Not bad, posh pub grub. If you order before 5.30 pm they do 2 courses for £16 and 3 for £20. It is a bit on the pricey side for the quality at full price. I had salt and pepper squid, masala fish and chips followed by chocolate torte with raspberry sorbet. The pudding was the best bit and very good. Other courses acceptable.

Hardly! It is unusual for me to eat out two weeks running. Usually too busy cooking stuff myself.

Had one of those high end meals. Visit to Mana in Manchester. This is top quality cooking. Ingredients, balance, presentation, service all to an exceptionally high standard. Yes it is pricey, but then it is an occasional treat, dining to this standard. Thoroughly enjoyable and totally recommended.

We are just back from a long weekend in London. One evening we had dinner at Great Nepalese Restaurant, 48 Eversholt Street, Camden, which is near Euston station. It's a family restaurant which opened in 1982.
The food and service were excellent. We had vegetable momo as a starter and hariyo chicken for mains, highly recommended.
Printed on the menu was the following statement- " if there is a dish you like and is not on the menu, please ask a staff member and we will do our best to prepare the dish."
