    I went last August - when im not even sure it was 'fully open' so tough to comment. Open kitchen though which is great as I always like to see whats going on.

    Had a short break in the Lake District earlier this week. Stayed at a pub with rooms called the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater. Nice comfortable room. Husband said the beer was good, he drank Loweswater Gold that used to be brewed at the pub, but now moved to bigger premises to keep up with demand. Our evening meal was not outstanding but a cut above the usual pub grub. I had a steak and ale pie that was very nice. The apple crumble with thyme was good but twice the size of portion I needed. OH had the sticky toffee pudding which he liked.
    The breakfast next morning was very nicely cooked to order and set us up for some good walking and we mostly managed to dodge the rain. We were so full we did not want lunch.

    I guess its really hard for these sort of businesses at the moment. Costs going through the roof and people having to cut back on non essential spending.

    On a more positive note, my wife and I went to see Andy Fairweather-Low at Ilkley Kings Hall last Friday - he was terrific btw.
    We decided to go back to Quinta, which I've enthused about before, for a pre-gig meal. It was excellent again, and very reasonably priced.
    I had spinach soup to start, fish stew for main and panacotta with apple sauce for pud. All were spot on, but the fish stew was particularly good. We will certainly go back again.

    We had a very nice meal at Kintsu in Colchester on Wednesday evening. As it is well out of area, l wouldn't normally post. However City play there on 18/4/2022, so if you are visiting/staying then this is really worth a visit. This was the set menu, although there were a number of A la Carte options.

    If any of you are travelling to Edinburgh this year and looking for a vegetarian restaurant I can recommend David Bann, St. Mary's Street in the Old Town.
    We celebrated a granddaughter's 19th birthday there last night. The food and service was excellent.

    The ‘scraps’ were fine, this fish of the day was Skate. The only thing I thought didn’t work well was the ‘curry sauce’, it was a bit thin and the taste was very thin. Colchester is a nice town. I would go back!

    Chip shop curry sauce - bleugh! A plague on it. It's an abomination that tastes like crappy Vesta packet curry from the early '70s. It's bad enough in fish & chip shops. Why anyone would want to introduce it to fine dining is a total mystery.

    Yes, in my view it didn’t work, the rest of the meal was very good, flavour, texture, mix, portions, presentation and service.
