I don't want value, I want good food, ambience, subdued lighting and I want to pay a bundle for it to forget I am Bratfud..............join the snob club. Er, not being snobby but Napoleans looks like a 1988 wine bar, not sure it's changed since my girlfriend was a croupier.
I've heard loads of good food reports for Napoleans. If it's any comfort I thought the clientele in the Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds would be upmarket. Blokes in Hugo Boss suits and women in cocktail dresses, but nope, even there tracky bottoms and Sports Direct best rule.

I've been out to a restaurant!!!!!!!
First time since March (not even been to a pub). It was a last minute thing and tbh I was a bit apprehensive. Went to Sasso in Harrogate. It was a little quiet, maybe 15 or so people in, but it was a little better than the sterile, sombre experience i was expecting. Staff only wore visors when serving food. The food was superb.RCarol, millario, Jayteebee and 1 other person like this. -
"It comes with chapattis" is a line I'm hearing less if, too. And - get this - Mumtaz were charging for water, too.
I dunno why top brass at the council don't use our second-to-none curry scene to promote the city more. People love it, and rightly so.bantamdave41, RCarol, ConnecticutBantam and 1 other person like this. -

On a more positive note, my wife and I went to see Andy Fairweather-Low at Ilkley Kings Hall last Friday - he was terrific btw.
We decided to go back to Quinta, which I've enthused about before, for a pre-gig meal. It was excellent again, and very reasonably priced.
I had spinach soup to start, fish stew for main and panacotta with apple sauce for pud. All were spot on, but the fish stew was particularly good. We will certainly go back again. The Original EB, millario, RCarol and 1 other person like this. -
Had another top meal at the Moorcock, just outside Sowerby Bridge, at the weekend.
Enjoyed a couple of pints (Magic Rock, £4.50) in the garden at the back before we ate.
All good, but the sirloin (one of those fancy old cows that put a 14 year shift in before being 'moved on') was a highlight. The crispy smokec potatoes remain superlative spuds.
I'm not a wine flight person but the bro-in-law I went with is, so we took their recommendations by the glass (with a bottle alongside just in case) and received healthy samples of several options. So that was nice.
Closes at the end of the year, and will be missed.king karl, Offcomedun, RCarol and 1 other person like this. -
Shibden Mill Inn, quirky rooms, great food and some nice walks. Easy walk to Shibden Hall and Piece Hall a short drive. Great place to spend a night or two

Saturday went to the highly acclaimed Nusret Shawarma on Manningham Lane. Chicken shawarma, probably made with free range chicken or summat, fresh salad that Alan Titchmarsh would have been proud of and two small naan type bready things. Washed down with a 2022 vintage sparking carbonated beverage from the Pepsi region. £6 English pounds for this veritable feast fit for a king. Parking not a problem, just park anywhere you want, in the middle of the road, on the pavement etc.

Just back from a nights stay at the Blue Lion in East Witton, Lower Wensleydale. This is a place that our current monarch apparently rates as a fave place to eat. It's very country set - there was a large shooting party staying there this weekend
The place was pleasant and relaxing. Good ambience - big open fire, decent (if somewhat stiff & starchy) service etc. Room was ok but nothing special for £137 b&b.
The food is good but, expensive for what it is. £13 for 6 queen scallops. I had the twice baked cheese souffle starter, which was actually very nice indeed.
Other half had a rosti for main, which she enjoyed but didn't rave about. My main was whole roast grouse which, with a side of (excellent) crispy kale came to about £40. I enjoyed it, but probably not enough to justify forty sheets.
We were both pretty full though, so didn't have puds or cheese.
£32 Malbec was good.
Breakfast was decent but the choice was limited compared with, say, Shibden Mill Inn.
The whole bill came to £280 for stay and scoff. We had a nice time, but I think I want a bit more than nice for that money, so I doubt we'll go back.Steve Burton, Jayteebee, RCarol and 1 other person like this. -
The neapolitan ones look thick and doughy but the crust is quite light and airy. The rest is quite thin . When done right

I can vouch for the quality of the cook book too. I have made the pethis and the coriander and potato balls several times.
I am a bit biased as the original owner, now retired (still run by younger generation though), once gave me 1st prize for my chillies at the West Yorkshire Organic Show. This is where and when I bought the book!Hulmebantam, Bigrod, Faithful Bantam and 1 other person like this. -

Went to The Roebuck in Newall with Clifton just outside Otley for lunch today.
Generous portions well cooked.
I had Lebanese koftas with giant couscous, feta and tzatziki to start with. Felt like a main course. For main I had salmon fillet with a crayfish, pea, spinach and lemon risotto which was very nice. It came with a side of vegetables of the day (sugar snap peas, carrots and broccoli) which was completely superfluous that I left untouched.
Other half had a superb Roebuck platter, with poached salmon, 3 types of smoked salmon, lobster, crevettes, tempura prawn, prawns, Italian antipasti (salami, mortadella, bresaola) and dips with new potatoes. I don't know how they served that lot up for £22.50. A doggy bag was required.
An elderly clientele. It is my 67th birthday and I reckon I was the youngest person eating, bar one teenager being treated to lunch by his gran.Wakefield Bantam, Rogered Tart, millario and 1 other person like this. -

If you think "Cannon mills" you'll be pretty close to how this will actually turn out,’
You can’t just open a restaurant and ‘get a Michelin Star’. I would guess it would be at least 18/24 months and that would be exceptional.
If you think of the Devonshire at Bolton Abbey, The Box Tree in Ilkley, then they have all lost their Michelin stars.
This is the current list for the whole of Yorkshire. https://yorkshirewonders.co.uk/michelin-star-restaurants-yorkshire Only seven for the whole county.
It is exceptionally difficult. The standards are for meticulous consistent cooking. The cost for a meal is substantial say a minimum of £150-£200 a head.
Restaurants are assessed by Michelin staff who book in anonymously.

The quality of the ingredients and subsequent dishes was very good.
Small sharing plates.
We had a number of plates, plus a 250ml glass of wine each, l had ice cream sweet course and two coffees for just over £70.
The interior is a mixture of exposed stonework and a very dark blue plain wall. I should have taken my glasses to read the menu as quite dark. Smooth unobtrusive service.
The acid test is would we go back again.
Absolutely is the answer.
The chef apparently worked at the El Gato Negro when it was located in Ripponden.
