Many moons ago we used to go on New Year’s Eve with my ex’s family for a meal and a play on the tables. Back then the food was very nice and with the drinks flowing we always ended up playing cards or on the roulette wheel always started with the ‘free’ bet. Pity it isn’t as good anymore and that the ‘free’ bet is on the machines only

A few days ago went to the Punchbowl at Crosthwaite. Very hearty and well done food, two courses was enough for me. Game twist with a Guinea Fowl main course and a very very nice sweet course. Thoroughly recommended.

Although I have not been to Napoleons for Christmas lunch or dinner, we have been many times for meals and have always thoroughly enjoyed it.
I see the Christmas deal was 3 courses, a drink on arrival plus the £5 gaming voucher (that you can use on the roulette but just via the machines).
That to me gives you a 3 course meal for just over a tenner, fantastic value in this day and age.
As the place is a casino it is hardly surprising to see people gambling ( some to extreme lengths), but there is no obligation to bet any more than your freebie.
I personally would recommend it to anyone who wants a good night out and a very reasonably priced meal.

Interesting to see if the newly opened International on the end of Sticker Lane is as good as its original sister restaurant. Will be giving it a try in the new year !

Yes a couple of times. Once for the tasting menu and another time a la carte. Enjoyed both.
I can vouch for the quality of the cook book too. I have made the pethis and the coriander and potato balls several times.
I am a bit biased as the original owner, now retired (still run by younger generation though), once gave me 1st prize for my chillies at the West Yorkshire Organic Show. This is where and when I bought the book!

I find the Ivy Leeds a bit up itself, but I have to admit Ivy Asia sounds interesting. It's next door isn't it?

    Yes, mate.

It's more of a tapas style (expensive) but lovely food.

I'll second that. Went last week. Was very good. Chaopraya in Leeds also very good - or it was when I last went pre-covid

I'll second Chaopraya too, or for a cheaper less formal Thai in Leeds, My Thai on York place, or Thai Sabai in Headingley

Ivy as you would guess has more class than Chaopraya.

I think I got one or two more dishes than I should have. Thought it was better that the Ivy next door but different food I suppose but a better setting in my view.

I've only eaten at the Ivy once and wasn't impressed. Ivy Asia seemed much better.

Don't think they can cope with time. In other words if you are there for over an hour or so they set to get worried about other bookings.

It's a bit of a long story that took about a week to get to the bottom of. They asked us to leave because they said we had had too much to drink and my friend had been abusive to the waitress (we were 2 respectable couples). When I disputed this and insisted on seeing the manager they offered us free drinks! They had moved the waitress to another part of the restaurant but my wife had a brief chat with her and she said she hadn't complained about anything and it must be a misunderstanding. The General Manager was offsite but he did contact me the following day and promised to get to the bottom of it.

After a week of phone calls and emails it transpired that my friend, in front of his wife, and me and my wife, had asked the waitress to marry him! This was overheard by another member of staff who raised a complaint. To put this in context, my friend had a creme brule for dessert and when the waitress asked how it was he said it was a very good creme brule. She told us that she makes a very good creme brule herself, to which he responded "will you marry me".

I have read what I have just written and it sounds even more ridiculous now. The world has gone mad.
