I would be very disappointed if Hurst comes in now.
No brainer for me now. 18 month contracts for Trueman and Sellars please

Literally all you would have to do is say 'Bradford City are delighted to confirm the appointment of Paul Hurst as manager, Paul will begin coaching on January 5th after a period of self isolation, Trueman and Sellers have the club's total support and will be working closely with Hurst to ensure the club is ready for a demanding festive fixture list and a crucial January transfer window'.
Everyone knows where they stand, everyone is reassured that work is ongoing, all pulling in the same direction, nobody can afford to drop their guard, but supposedly we're not doing that?
Is this the equivalent of the US not announcing Biden as President, or what?

I don’t envy Sparks now tbh, if he’d have made an appointment within the first week he wouldn’t be in this almost no win situation now. If he keeps Trueman on and it goes wrong fans will say he should have brought an experienced man in straight away, if we bring someone else in all it’ll take is a few loses for people to say he should have gone with Trueman. This is why dilly dallying and having a wait and see approach doesn’t work in football, the only way he can win is if we keep winning which is unlikely long term with this squad.

There are lots of experienced managers knocking about the lower divisions. Just because they're experienced doesn't mean they're any good. They usually have a bit of success somewhere which enables them to keep getting jobs, but their failures generally outweigh their successes. They might have once inherited a good squad from the previous manager who went on to higher things or they might have just got lucky. Clubs go with them as a safe option rather than go with someone untried. No one wants to look stupid if it all goes wrong. And these managers tend to have an ultra cautious and defensive frame of mind. They're dull, and their football is dull. They wander from club to club before finally no one wants them and they call it a day, or take something like an academy job.

They have done it this way so they can revert to their old roles if results dip, we panic and need a senior man in charge. Better that the club appointing them permanently, recruiting new academy coaches, then Trueman and Sellars would leave the club.....
Some need to stop panicking. Recruitment bloke has been in place for weeks according to Sparks and we’ve won last three on the bounce! Whoever the boss was, he’d lead off the Turnbull work for recruitments.

The way I view this is that Sparks has not been impressed enough with the out of work managers he has interviewed, including Hurst, they have been thwarted for now with their approaches for managers currently employed elsewhere, obviously delighted and probably surprised at how well Trueman and Sellars have done so far, so this latest move is saying to them go and prove you are up to the job full time and the full time job is yours, if not, they will try and approach their targets again in the Spring or summer.
The situation is a bit unsettling still, however, it's probably the right thing to do for nowEast Riding Bantam, Morley Bantam, Bronco and 5 others like this. -

Can't wait for the end of January, once that damned expensive window is out of the way. That way we can't sign any more players and are free to announce a permanent manager.

Looks like my thoughts gave already been shared by many.
I'm pleased for T and S, but we can't even congratulate them properly per this announcement.
We now have to accept we are in managerial limbo going into January... And the players have to deal with the fact that one or two bad performances could now lead to a panicked, knee jerk appointment.
Dear oh dear...
Still, on the surface of it, T and S deserve the chance, and you could argue that is a solid move... But peel away that top layer of positivity and there's nothing there.

Its quite funny to see how many negative posters there are today despite the "current" management team breaking records like there is no tomorrow.
I am actually really excited to watch tomorrows game- got that buzz back. Young management team, experienced recruitment team, players playing for the shirt and each other.

I don't understand the panic on here.
The club probably feel they have stumbled upon a gem with the Trueman/Sellers combination. They already know how good they are as youth team coaches and early results suggest they know what they're doing with the seniors. The club will be hoping that this pair are going to be a success and will be the long term management team we've all craved since PP and Parkin. But it's too early to put all their eggs in that basket. They need to see how they react to diversity and if they can maintain the intensity of the last few games. So they've given them a rolling secondment to prove that they aren't a flash in the pan. If they do that then they get the long term gig. If not, they go back to what they've been doing really well beforehand, running the academy.
I'd far rather the club took this approach than rush to appoint another dull, uninspiring manager like Hurst, who they clearly aren't convinced by.simons (woking bantam), Inspector, Bantam Boy and 5 others like this. -

Well whatever people’s opinion of Ryan Sparks is he took over the club in free fall now we are unbeaten in five and have a director of recruitment and the basis of a scouting network something people on here have been calling for with siren voices.
