First cast, first salmon of the season. In the flood and gales. This is the positive thing when you turn up on site and you can't get access to do electrical work. Go fishing.

Nothing spectacular to report , won a local club match ( large bag of bream ) . 18lb mirror at Brigham , the fishings gone slack with the cold weather and heavy rain . About a month ago i was fishing ( Brigham again ) odd roach and bream small tench , the owner came over for money for day ticket ( £5 per day ) , the fishing had gone quiet , so i started talking to him --------- bang rod pulled round double , just managed to grab end of rod before it disappeared into the lake , the Carp ( i presume ) had shed the hook . The farmer looked at me , no words were spoken , i didn't get another bloody bite all day .

Hair rig for boilies or big chunks of meat in winter for me
I usually find in summer a small flake of meat just disguising the hook produces more
I always use the rule of thumb no bites drop the hooksize getting bites but missing them or losing them up the hooksize
Its all opinions/experience tho every water is different the beauty of fishing is you never stop learning
Taking eldest grandson on Saturday for his 2nd session won't be long before he's telling me what to do :laughing:

Today I said to the boy, we won’t catch mackerel using a light stick float rig, off the back of my folks’ boat trotting a prawn downtide. We’ll probably catch wee pollock or coalies. Cue two of the biggest mackerel I’ve seen in a while proper screaming runs on light float gear, tremendous fun tor the lad and tea sorted. Picture doesn’t do them justice tbh.

I got married and didn't go fishing for maybe 15 years. Then a mate invited me along so i dusted everthing off and went. I was the only person on the bank with a basket. One bloke asked me what time I was letting my pigeons off :grinning:

slow down the pace today with a stoll along the rochdale canal. @Hulmebantam@Hulmebantam is currently cycling along the towpath to the game like Howard off Last of the summer wine. Maybe a rendzvous with Marina on the cards the dirty dog.

Big pike under that barge btw...
