Great fun is overnight fishing, take away curry and a couple of fish to boot, can’t be bad.

Best of luck @Craven Cottager@Craven Cottager, try loose feeding into the keepnet, every dram counts!!

Have booked a 6hr sea fishing trip from Brid in the middle of Sept with some work colleagues.
Anyone in the know as to what we might be catching (if anything)
    Cheers.

Hardly an authority, but if it’s wreck fishing maybe cod (? Might be more of a winter fish), ling, conger, pollock that kind of thing. Maybe rays or dogfish too, depends what kind of ground you are fishing over, @Craven Cottager@Craven Cottager is our sea fishing professional. Sure you’ll get a few fish.

I've done a 10 hour stint on a boat out of Brid before and it's usually cod, even at this time of year.. The guys taking you out know there stuff and where to find the fish. I'm sure you'll have a good time, particularly if the weather holds.

Sad to say @Skyebantam@Skyebantam got it right. I fell in. Big fish pulled my rod off the rest and into the lake. Managed to grab the rod before it disappeared, lost my balance and went for an early bath. Nipped home for a quick clothing change and back to fishing. Only caught 2, a carp and a bream to 2lb. Winning weight was 19lb.
Downside was my mobile phone was wrecked. Spent the morning uploading stuff on my new one.
Upside is you get the peg named after you for future matches if you fall in. "Jake's Jacuzzi".

Sadly, no. Added insult to injury. Lost a few heavy fish off the hook. Was using size 14. Thinking of trying a 12.

Sounds good advice. I’m so long out of coarse fishing but what about a hair rig? Would that help, Steve?? I used to use them for barbel, with luncheon meat or a big pellet. Tell me if I’m talkin’ shite

Hair rig for boilies or big chunks of meat in winter for me
I usually find in summer a small flake of meat just disguising the hook produces more
I always use the rule of thumb no bites drop the hooksize getting bites but missing them or losing them up the hooksize
Its all opinions/experience tho every water is different the beauty of fishing is you never stop learning
Taking eldest grandson on Saturday for his 2nd session won't be long before he's telling me what to do :laughing:

sage advice. We do similar with fly fishing, altering the size if trout are missing or coming short. Sometimes works. Tbh, I’d probably be mesmerised walking into a coarse tackle shop with all the fancy new stuff you can get.

You would be, but remember "All the gear No Idea" plenty of blokes like that at our local lake
I remember starting as an 8 year old (a good 10 years ago :joy::joy:) it was split cane rods and centre pin reels catching minnows small roach and sticklebacks on the Canal at Apperley Bridge happy days !!!
Far cry from today's ultra hi tech carp tactics
