    I'll look this one up.

Been in training today for tomorrow's fishing contest at Raygill. Caught 38lb of fish in an 8 hour session. Biggest was a mirror carp at 5lb. Several other mirrors, one common and one bream on a piece of frankfurter, just as an experiment.

Fished a 4 hour competition at Raygill this evening. Only caught one fish, but it was enough to walk away with first prize of £30 _ a 15lb carp.

    Somehow I missed this.

top effort and tactics, sitting it out for a lump @Craven Cottager@Craven Cottager . Well done. Will the cash be reinvested in frankfurters or tackle, I wonder?

Bought a new landing net handle. Not impressed with frankfurters as a bait.

I might have done over 30 years ago before I got married and gave up (gave up fishing that is :)).
I'm completely out of touch. Do Bradford No 1 and Bradford City AAs still exist, and is City still the one you join when you can't get into No 1?

bradford City AA definitely still exists, sure they both will.

Only fished the swale a handful of times, I normally fished the Wharfe. Brilliant river though.

I'm finding this thread really educating. I haven't been fishing for probably 30 years. Prawns! Lardons! How about quails eggs? :grinning:. If i start up again looks like I'll be going to Waitrose for bait! You'll be telling me next I can't get half a pint of maggots from Carters or Richmonds

Maggots are so 1960’s mate. Come into there own in the winter months, so I’m told.
Lardons and raw prawns are a very cheap bait alternative. A pack of prawns £2.75 at Morrison’s will last you several fishing trips and the smoked lardons (£1) will last you even longer. Caught 9 of my fish yesterday on the same lardon.

Out chucking the fluff for a couple of hrs tonight. Hard fishing, the two lochs I went to were very weedy, no fish showing at all, missed a few and only banked one fish but a nicely marked one. Saved a blank though. Still never caught or seen a fish in one of the lochs. The club book says there are good trout in it, lochs like that can be dour as hell, I’ll have another bash next season.

no room for wasp grub any more!! My thoughts go out to the maggot farming industry.
