he’ll be off to the Ebro for giant catfish, next. Many of the huge rivers in Europe have those things, massive. Maybe best sticking with those!

not sure? I think they will be in native some euro rivers. But think in the ebro they were introduced?? Probably by unscrupulous fisherfolk.

Lovely perch, CC. Forget how stunning a fish they are, you do find them up here, never encountered one though. Someone caught one on Loch Meig that last comp I went to.

Nice perch been a bit too warm for them to feed today bet there was plenty of Carp cruising near the surface
Now would be a good time to go for a couple of hours before the light goes
What was the winning weight ??

    Sorry perch spark memory lane….

one of the first venues i used to be allowed to go to on my own was The Three Lakes in Selby, that was full of perch and assume it still is. You used to fish about a rod length out, by the lilies with a red maggot or a worm and catch perch after perch. Great fun. I once caught a big chub in there which was a huge surprise, fishing a summer evening and saw these fish topping fairly far out. I had a 2 swan chubber float that i stuck on so that i could cast further and put no shot on the line. I expected maybe a roach but it was a clonking chub, i still vividly remember it all these yrs later. Later it turned into a private carp syndicate and they dug out some of it so so the lakes became joined. It became pretty famous as a carp water with some big fish, which i remember at the time i was gutted about that you could no longer fish it, but it’s back to being day ticket fishery again, now. Good pike water too in the winter. All sorts in there.

Caught the perch and 3 small roach on prawn bait.
The others were caught on maggot. No takes on sweetcorn.
Winning weight total was 25lb all caught on pole.

That would be mid 70s by my reckoning ??
There was some right stripeys in there but they seemed to vanish overnight for some reason
It holds a good stock of carp now rumoured into the 30s had one at 22 a good few years back
Not fished it for years it's too busy through the day and too many idiots at night
Shame really as it's a beautiful spot (ignoring the plane noise)

Yup that would be about the time. Fishing off the jetty or round the side just past that sort of island / landing bit

I remember seeing Yeadon Tarn in a book of Stillwater Angling in Yorkshire, I also had the Rivers companion book. Great guides, those two. Great toilet, reading material

speaking of Tarns - Malham Tarn, now there we are talking bucket list territory, for me. Some incredible brown trout in there and perch too, funnily enough.

Am I right in thinking late 70s there was some sort of disease that wiped out much of the perch population?
