Sounds great. match style anglers usually smash the session carpers off the water, and tbf a lot of match fishing centres around carp, though i think rivers and canals are having a resurgence it’s not all commercial lakes.

I guess the session carpers come into their own with their well thought out rigs on really tough gravel pits and stuff like that. Yrs ago they did a carp vrs match and the carpers caught nowt and the match lot caught carp on their delicate gear. They do that kind of thing more regularly now, even on TV it used to be you’d only hear about it in the Angling Times or Mail. Each to their own, any dog can have its day and there’s merit in all styles. I love pike fishing in winter fishing, static and getting the bivvy up. It’s variety, fly fishing you are constantly on the move, sometimes you just need a good old sit down

fantastic @SelbyFan@SelbyFan , catching a barbel is always a thrill, hanging on for dear life! See, they still like bog standard luncheon meat.

The lakes I refer to (5) are old Claypits full of the usual fare but the silver fish , especially roach and rudd which are in stunning condition. Yes they have a healthy head of carp but all 5 lakes are also stocked with barbel up to 10lb!! They breed their own fish in another series of ponds. Stunning fishing, for me £5 a day! The carp and match style anglers all get on well!

Wild last night on Loch Fada. Plenty of brown trout, nothing big, though I had one that was decent come short. Got a nice rainbow though which was unexpected, pulled my arm off!

Contrast that with Norfolk… It was roasting here.

Just how I remember the wilds of Scotland though!

i was thinking, any minute now the wind will settle as evening draws on. But no. Great to be out though, and my engine didn’t conk out at the top end of the loch. Which was nice! No midges which is the real bonus.

One decent mirror carp today. The rest were small roach and perch, not much bigger than pilchards.

Fished the Leeds Liverpool can today just above Farnhill Bridge.
Caught roach, perch and bream all caught on maggot. Also tried bread and sweet corn without any luck. Best fish of the day.

It’s a roach and a nice one. All fish have colour variations. I’m a coarse angler for over 50 years . The mouth gives it away.

Not a bream in my eyes. The dorsal fin is far too carpy. Certainly an hybrid, but not a bream one , imho.
