Penn Amble Open sea angling competition tomorrow. Caught five flatties off the pier today, but none came up to the minimum size of 25cm as required by tomorrow's contest! Still might give it a go. Used to catch some big plaice at Arnside back in the day.

well done. Weather’s horrendous here, can’t face a four hr round trip piking to the mainland at the moment, waiting for a slightly milder spell rather than minus windchill temps, torrential rain and severe gales! Lightweight, i know.

Yes, I did. Caught 4 flounder, a dab and a lemon sole, but none big enough to enter at the weigh-in. Fished with live black lug and tried squid for he first time which caught the sole. Decent calm weather. Strange to run a contest over the time the tide was out!

I take it there are no pike on Skye?

I went to Wharfe at Tadcaster again, two landed Chub, lost one, both 2 1/2 (ish) lbs, nice fish.

    Good luck tomorrow.

    well done mate. Lovely river.

no coarse fish on skye, the highlands doesn’t have many tbf, pike, perch and eels being present in some lochs / systems. My closest venue isn’t too far from kyle of lochalsh, but after that it’s the big hydro lochs which is where i tend to target more. The loch we fished today is huge, levels fluctuate so it’s a interesting and tricky venue. Some big pike in there though, as with many of the big hydro lochs, which tends to add to the allure of setting aside how daunting they seem and just get out and have a go.

we avoided the blank today, a nice 14lb pike was our lot, pretty wild old day, white horses etc.

Nice one any size fish counts to avoid a blank.

My biggest pike is about 12lbs at Ouse at landing lane, Fulford, I haven't really fished for pike for some years now.

Love wading the river and trotting for Barbel and Chub with few Grayling for good measure.

Boston Spa and Newton Kyme was where I used to fish a lot. Beautiful stretches. Some clonking pike in the wharfe and the Ouse, Foss Basin is very popular. Biggest pike i’ve had is 21lb, a while ago now, it was from up here. Had a fair few 18s knocking on the door, the pike fight very hard up here. Could easily be a real monster or two in these lochs, biggest one I’ve seen a picture of is a 28lber.

Is the selby dam still full of fish, think i’ve asked you before? Fished that so much when i was a kid.

I think it fishes OK but I'm from Bradford so no real history of fishing the Dam.

I have lived here about 32 years though.

Only been fishing for about 20 years.

In these strange times, you can always count on the soothing sounds of a babbling burn (unfortunately no sounds)
