There will always be a demand for maggots in fishing. Wasp grub is a niche and seasonal market. Used to get loads removing wasp nests in the course of my work back in the day.
During a trip to Poland some years ago, I watched kids catching carp with cherries as bait.

yeah, I was joking with the maggots ;) things move on, new techniques, new baits, makes it all interesting discovering something new, that works.

One of the kids told me they soaked the cherries in vodka overnight. Only in Poland!

Didn't there use to be a maggot farm in Wrose, near the mast thing?

Today I said to the boy, we won’t catch mackerel using a light stick float rig, off the back of my folks’ boat trotting a prawn downtide. We’ll probably catch wee pollock or coalies. Cue two of the biggest mackerel I’ve seen in a while proper screaming runs on light float gear, tremendous fun tor the lad and tea sorted. Picture doesn’t do them justice tbh.

Yesterday's match at Raygill was won by my lad with 24lb including a 7.5lb carp. He even got a trophy as well as a coveted cap, currently being displayed on the mantle piece with mine until such time as the wife tells us to grow up!

    Congrats
You will soon need a bigger mantle piece
Sounds like serious rivalry brewing in the craven household

Last overnighter of the season last night getting decidedly chilly in the early hours and these old bones can no longer take it
Had three out but missed a lot 11 and 16lb mirrors and 18lb common not a bad end to the season
May go after the canal Pike on an odd bright winter's day but that's it for me
No Caps or Trophies to rival @Craven Cottager@Craven Cottager who knows next year he may have competition from HD6

    Bait?
    Hook size?
    Method, waggle or float?
    Well done on those weights.
Our next match is 17th September.

nicely done mate. Good weight fish, those. Stocked up on mackerel (some nice joey sized ones) today, hopefully some piking n all this winter.

It’s been a good season for me, but unless we get rain before Oct 15th then salmon fishing will be a non event. The sea trout must be stuck waiting too, not a drop pretty much all of August. Next lift in our rivers I’d expect a decent run, unless the seals get a lot in the estuaries.

Cheers there are better fish in there but was pleased with my final haul
Pineapple boilies 15mm dipped in scopex hair rigged with a size 6 hook
Stone colored Ledger tight to the margins usually banks a couple at night
Good luck for the 17th are they open matches or do you have to be a member ?
Fished Raygill a few years ago always liked it but never returned for some reason

Don't have to be a member, it's just a gang of local folk on a whattsapp group who try to outdo each other. There's usually 10 to 12 anglers who compete. I think there's about 14 pegs in total.
£5 to fish on the day for those taking part. Each angler puts £3 into the pot and winner takes all.
