Decent days fishing at Raygill. Used method feeder and caught two roach on pellets, two Bream and two commons on squid. Total haul came to 14lb.

Daft t*** that I am I went fishing today on the Wharfe at Tadcaster.

Got all set up under the A64 bridge.

Then I thought "hang on it's close season".

As soon as I realised I tackled down and trudged back to the car park.

Is this a consequence of being 70 years old in a couple of months time?

    No I'm just a daft t***.

At least you realized before you caught anything. Over here that sort of thing can get expensive. When does the season open?

The season starts again on 15th June 2023.

It closed on 15th June 2023.

    I can't believe I did that.

Nah, m8. Back in the day when I was poor I'd find a log to sit on. Couldn't afford a basket or a cushion.

I got married and didn't go fishing for maybe 15 years. Then a mate invited me along so i dusted everthing off and went. I was the only person on the bank with a basket. One bloke asked me what time I was letting my pigeons off :grinning:

Loved Yeadon Tarn back in the mid 70s some clonking Perch on livebait minnows from the wooden jetty by the youth club
Not sure what happened to them they seemed to disappear overnight
Once remember catching a Barbel in there never heard of another since
You are right about sitting on fishing baskets not the comfiest but catching those massive "stripeys" I didn't care
Couldn't do it nowadays am spoilt with my reclining fully padded Carp fishing chair

I think many kids started their fishing adventures there. I don't know if its because I was smaller but yes some of those perch seemed massive. From memory I think a nationwide disease pretty much wiped out the still water perch population. Like yourself fished off the jetty or just round to the left past that little connected island thing

I've not fished for years but when I've been for a wander round "for old times sake" it seems to be a carp fishery now. Not a basket in site, just the angling equivalents of Parker Knoll and Shackletons :grinning:

My introduction to fishing was around 1962 at Apperley Bridge canal, up near (ish) the locks.

I really only fish the Wharfe at Tadcaster now.

Don't do "match" fishing or fly fishing, not my thing.

Still enjoy the solitude, that's what is about for me.

Pilley’s dam, ( way back in mid 60’s) caught my first ever fish, a gudgeon. Next venue was the “Blue Lagoon” On way to Calverley from Thornbury, always plenty of people fishing but I never caught anything there.

Anyone else admit to a short lived fad of fishing Peel Park pond. There were some seriously big goldfish in there! Allegedly unwanted prizes from the fair released into the pond. Never caught a coconut though :grinning:

Well, not fishing but when I was at St. George’s, we took some kayaks over and had a paddle about. That must be about 50 years ago. Not even sure who the teacher would have been.
