Having worked in marketing for several years for a couple of well known brands I can tell you that the club are doing exactly what any other business of their size would do when looking to refresh their brand image.
They've employed a brand marketing company to do the redesign. As part of this process they've undertook customer insight through the various quantitive surveys.
Off the back of this they've gone away and come up with, what is, a re-brand. It's not the final design and it's good to see the club involving supporters in the process and using the feedback.
As someone whose been involved this process, nearly 3k respondents is very good. It doesn't surprise me that there's some who're apathetic. Interestingly, it's the apathetic who tend to be the most vocal once the re-brand is launched.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Anyone with a discriminatory mindset can practice it in their own homes. They aren't welcome at VP.

I voted C. No reason to change a decent club crest for the sake of it in my opinion.

It's looking like we'll be stuck with the old one at this rate. A 3-way choice means 1 badge could win with less than half the popular vote. Should've had a 50/50 split - new versus old. That said, I cannot fault the club for trying to modernise the crest and for trying to consult fans. Unfortunately, trying to please all of the people all of the time is impossible so, in true British fashion, let's ALL be f**king miserable instead.

Another similar design from the same guy. Really like this one, looks way better than the cumbersome crest and the awful looking white bantam.Leeds Bantam, Gardscoigne, WilsdenBantam and 1 other person like this. -

Just like the Leeds badge years ago it was ugly and never going to happen. Time to move on and not focus on tacky badges and court cases, hopefully moaning about crap football is all we have to moan about from now on.

I must be missing the point here. On what basis is the club’s crest holding us back now or would it in future?
if we have success on the pitch fans want to come. Businesses want to invest for exposure when a team is successful. And that’s about as much as there is to it.
this is football, a much different business to normal as you have a loyal fanbase who return even if the product is bad, within reason, because it is ‘their’ team.
This isn’t Morrisons rebranding their logo to look more modern or Asda redesigning the packaging on their microwave meals to convince their customers - who are prime targets for other supermarkets - to stay shopping with them.
i’ve never heard of a fan not supporting a club because their badge was the wrong shape.
like a lot of things in the working world, it is one of those things where people look to give themselves something to do to justify their existence.
Someone will end up milking lots of time and money to dedicate to this!Dennis, Rogered Tart and Dratsab taf like this. -
The increase of interest in the lower leagues, specifically the teams you have mentioned, have had little to do with rebranding.
Salford were bought into by the United boys for obvious reason, Hollywood getting involved with wrexham was likely due to them being a cheap option. Relatively well known, decent fanbase, chance to climb the ladder. Given at what Reynolds and mcheleny were looking at, I'd be amazed if our club didn't pop up in a conversation however I'd guess the £10m price tag put paid to that.
There is no pressing need for a rebrand, the club have just begun to get fans back inside after a terrible few years, risking that now for the sake of it would be ridiculous. The backlash would be , in my opinion, worse than they'd expect.
The white kit experiment of last year, was I think a little test the water thing, ok it might have a sold a few shirts however most fans thoughts were against it.
Ask Cardiff fans how they feel about rebranding, they had a wonderful year in red with a new badge didn't they?
Many other teams have tried to break from tradition, it doesnt work. as the poster above says, football is a different business, you have your customer base, you won't entice them from elsewhere simply by changing your colour or badge, all you can do is lose themJayteebee, borderlescott and Areyoureadingthisedin like this. -
It justifies someone’s job keeping them busy with a redesign - doing a survey, mocking up designs then consulting people over something the fans don’t really care about.
We are not a global club and our brand is tiny and restricted to West Yorkshire, so the way we grow is to win matches and climb the divisions - when results are good we can add 2-3k fairweather fans onto our attendances.Rogered Tart, Kevin1954 and Dennis like this. -
Survey opens at 5 for all fans to give their opinions and thoughts on the new branding proposal. Got a feeling this badge will live as long as the Leeds fist badge from a few years back.
I get that badges these days are toned down for branding and merch to make it easier and simple. But there can be some design elements. This looks so naff, not even poorly designed just naff and uninspiring. I'd be shocked if this took more than an hour to create. Hopefully on the survey they can list some of the other pitched badges, would love to see what this beat out.bantamdave41, CRASS and WilsdenBantam like this. -

It would be better if the club just cut the crap in the lengthy spiel and say “it’ll save us X thousand per year with a simpler printed design. Is that ok? Yes / No”
