The sad truth which i said some time back. Labours sheer utter incompetence allowed Johnson a clear route to downing street when in thuth he should never have been near the place and the present situation we find ourself in is down to Labour as well as the Tories. I've never known such a deep distrust of the political elite in this country.

That Generation you claim was so bad had to help rebuild a nation torn apart and destroyed by war, It had to put up with rationing until the late 50s, Yet built the NHS from nothing, Built a free education service from nothing built 3 million council houses to eradicate homelessness and poverty that was rife, They built a nation that prospered and rebuilt a country that people like you could never do and only run down those heroic efforts to build a country that you obviously despise and insult those that have worked so hard to give you an upbringing they could only dream off,

Is it a Brexit thing? 100k vacancies but only 20k foreign drivers have left. More blame lies with the industry for treating their staff like shit

There is an underlying issue, fuelled by COVID-19, Brexit and the age profile of tanker drivers, but the main reason for the shortages was media driven panic buying.

Yup. Very few people, on either side, genuinely believed that it made economic sense to leave the free market, add extra layers of bureaucracy, tariffs etc. It was always about national identity, sovereignty, immigration etc. The idea that Brexit would be economically beneficial was a big fat whopper that even those telling it didn't really believe.

I don’t even think you yourself know what point you’re trying to make, let alone anyone else..

Whom exactly am I pointing fingers at, and over what? It’s only remainers who are keeping this thread / any general Brexit debate going with their constant whinging.

The biggest benefit to Brexit to most brexiteers is having sovereignty and independence. It’s called patriotism. It’s fine if you’re not patriotic and would rather be in the same umbrella as Czechs and Slovaks, but many patriotic Brits are happy with merely leaving the EU - we don’t need additional benefits to prove it’s the right move.

(ps - Try respond without childish insults, for once)

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people get so worked up about the relatively minor issue of benefit fraud - even to the point of voting us out of the EU to stop people coming over here and sponging off our benefits, when hardly any of them actually were. Yet the the absolutely gargantuan issue of multinational tax avoidance, which costs the country mega billions in lost revenue, gets largely ignored.

Talking of GB news. A good but sad report this morning about the homeless in Blackpool sleeping out in the cold and wet weather, inckuding an army veteran suffering with PTSD, whilst the nearby Metropole Hotel is paid to host 300 illegal immigrants, feeding them and providing warm rooms and beds. Shame on the Government for allowing this to happen up and down the country

What exactly is our fair share in your eyes though? We have around the same population as France for example but France has way more land. We have a housing crisis here because we struggle to build enough houses for our current population and the houses we are building are not only being crammed so much that residents in London in 1666 would complain that things were too cramped but it's taking up more and more of our green space.

We can't just take anyone who wants to come here. Currently, the UK has 272 people per square km and if we just take England which is where most of them will land its 424 people per square km (Scotland and Wales have way more space but when you consider the majority of Scotland's population is in that Glasgow to Edinburgh corridor it tells you about how unappealing most of Scotland is as a place to live and work). We need to be more selective about who is legitimate and who will benefit the country and we certainly can't just accept illegals who can't be arsed to try and come here correctly, who would rather pay criminals to smuggle them in before they disappear into the black economy so are just a drain on society as they give nothing back.

If we are to be doing anything it should maybe be giving more to support countries with the space to take way more people like France with their 118 people per sqr km or Spain with their 92 so there can be less justification for them basically just shipping them across the border to the next country like is happening. In fact maybe we need a central fund that everyone contributes to based on their GDP and countries are given grants from that based on how many they have taken in so the countries have more encouragement to take in what the available space allows

Seems as though EU countries are far more efficient in processing Asylum Claims than the UK. Also far higher percentage having their applications rejected. Perhaps rather than having a go at the EU, their stance is far more robust and much higher numbers are being processed, far quicker!
Given the UK’s poor performance, it is not surprising that it may seem an attractive destination for migrants, seeking asylum. In reality the party of Brexit have failed yet again.

Last year, the UK authorities made initial decisions on 18,699 asylum applications and granted 14,211 of them - 76%.

In the same period, Germany made 197,540 asylum decisions, and granted more than 50% of them.

France - a country with a similar-sized population to the UK - made 129,735 decisions, and also granted more than 50%.

Rishi's plan to clear the backlog going well too......

Rishi Sunak’s pledge to clear ‘legacy’ asylum backlog on course to fail, watchdog finds | The Independent

If they got their act together and processed them quicker then maybe they wouldn't spend as much on housing seekers in hotels, barges, student housing, airfields etc.....

But tell you what will do it....solving the Inheritance Tax problem!!!

I doubt that if Labour got into Govt (and I personally don't believe that will happen in the foreseeable future) there would be little change in direction from the current position whilst Corbyn is the leader. He is scared that staying in the EU (and more particularly the SM) would somehow curtail his renationalisation plans. His own ideology is more important to him than the economic future of our country.

The politicians have made a real mess of Brexit, The best option now would be to terminate negotiations and inform the EU we are going to trade on WTO terms and withdraw any financial compensation ( As we do with most countries in the world with no problems ). The share of world markets the EU has is going down year on year and it would be economic foolishness to tie ourselves to it, The real world growth is outside the EU and this is where our focus should be, A free trade deal with the USA and India etc would leave us not only a more prosperous country but also a free one.

And there lies the flaw within the Brexit argument.

"Things would be no different if your lot (Marxist and ethnic party were In power"

Let's assume that the fantasy of 100% control is achieved. Giving politicians complete control or more control than they already have is all good and well if/when you have a government in charge who you actually like and trust, but for people like you is clearly less appealing when "my lot are in power". The majority of hard Brexiters would be livid if Corbyn was ever in charge. If him in charge would be catastrophic for this country as your typical hard Brexiters believes, what would it look like if he had even more control to influence the country through the Brexit vote? Sovereignty doesn't sound too great now does it?

"majority of parliament have no regard for the wishes of the British people"

Politicians in this country very rarely come out with a glowing reference. Ask the British public what they think of them and most of the answers will amount to something along the lines of them being incompetent and not having our interests at heart. Yes strangely enough, it's these same incompetent, 'no regard for the wishes of the British people' polticians who leave voters are desperate to give control to and fully trusted to deliver a 'successful' Brexit . How naive.

Second that, odd now that we are getting the non Boris “ truth” 70 odd percent of the electorate now believe the whole charade and costly exercise should be stopped NOW. The ditty by the Brexit Secretary about BLT sandwiches being safe in the Government hands yesterday was embarrassing after he “glossed over” the potential shortage of life dependant medicines. He wants the pharmacists and suppliers to stock them , same day as the NHS were advising them NOT to stockpile.

We should (2 years ago) have just said "ta-ra, we're going, you know where we are if you want to talk to us.."
That would have saved us the £39 billion pounds that we foolishly said that we would pay THEM to leave their rotten club...
