It is maybe not a shock if it transpires that Qatar has been offering financial incentives, or bribes. It would be shocking if somebody in a position of influence accepted such bribes. The person accepting the bribes would be in the wrong.

If a bank employee is caught stealing from the till or accepting back-handers, that person is in the wrong but it does not mean that the bank is corrupt. That person should be exposed and sanctioned. The bank will no doubt act swiftly to deal with that individual.

That this Greek MEP and her assistant have been so quickly identified and suspended actually reveals that the European Institutions take this matter very seriously, proving that they are NOT corrupt. It is an irrational exaggeration to brand all European institutions as corrupt due to the supposed actions of 3 or 4 individuals abusing the system, but a predictable reaction trying to make a cheap point.

I am probably the only person on here who has worked for the European institutions. A colleague in agriculture was found to be leaking advance information for profit about intervention prices to outside interested parties. He was sacked and sent to prison. He was a corrupt employee IN the Commission, not part of a corrupt organization.

As Offcomedun has said above, most people now realize that Brexit was a mistake but a very difficult one to reverse.
    The lorry has jackknifed.

Oh agree completely, the perk of quality sick pay is well known to be abused in the public sector. A lot of the problem with time off sick through the public sector though is the workloads and impossible scenarios placed upon the employees by cutbacks and budget reforms. The tories started implementing these cuts years ago and yet we pay more in taxes as individuals than we did when they started making the cuts. And they are still making cutbacks and the debt has gone up. Someones taking the piss.

You're aiming you ire at the wrong targets m8. You want to set your sights on the embarrassment that is the labour party, a disgrace to the working man these days. Wouldn't trust them to run a bath let alone the country.

Society as a whole seems to be very aggressive and violent these days, not something i use to associate with our particular country. Quite sad but also a worrying trend.

That is wrong, very wrong. You are naive if you think people voted to give control to the set of most incompetent members of parliament we have ever had and that includes all parties in this. I, as a leave voter, went to the ballot box to vote for change. I did not vote for the people paid to implement this change. The fact they are utterly useless is no fault of the peple who voted.

Indeed. And we all know that the real reason that the likes of Rees-Mogg, John Moulton, Paul Dacre, BoJo, Dyson, Farage etc are so concerned about any suggestion that the UK would remain subject to EU directives is because of the snappily titled EU Directive 2016/1164 which will be implemented next year and which we're all familiar with! ;)

It's better known as the Anti Tax Avoidance Directive and will start to bring an end to the many UK overseas tax havens where the rich, famous and questionable keep their fortunes beyond the reach of UK and other EU tax authorities. And without the hardest of Brexits as favoured by the likes of Rees-Mogg, Moulton, Dacre, Dyson, Farage, BoJo etc etc the UK may well have to sign up to this new directive. And for those with something to hide or at least not disclose, it could be a major problem

May has had a lot of criticism that she has not reached out to other parties to compromise but how can she?

Labour want to remain in the EU and be a rule taker so cannot compromise there
Lib Dems ( Who?) are pledged to remain in the EU so no compromise there either
SNP (windbags) want to solidly remain in the EU so no compromise there,
So all these people saying she needs compromise are in actual fact remainers wanting her to fail and have no brexit,

The European election results coming in and its looking like a disaster for the main parties. Brexit Party coming out as the big winner, i'm guessing the excuse will be that people didn't know what they were voting for and that we should have a second vote, you know, just to be sure that everyone knew what they were voting for :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:. Looks like my vote counted again, just like it did nearly three years ago. Well done uncle Nigel .

Its a good question and one that seems to be conveniently forgotten when talks of budgets come around. I smile to myself when i see people asking for an extra penny on income tax to pay for the NHS etc. The fact this 'penny' would never get to front line services seems to escape them somehow. I heard Corbyn at PMQs looking to bring back funding for legal aid. All well and good eh? But he seems to have forgotten why it was removed in the first place, the whole legal aid system had become a corrupt cash cow, pretty much like anything involving tax payers money and public services. Only last week i was talking to someone involved in 'private ambulance' sector, £500 a day to ferry people from one destination to another. And even when these unscrupulous people do get caught its just swept under the carpet, like Gary Verity and his 'misappropriation' of public funds,"it's alright folks he's paid it back". We all want better services and better pay for the grunts at the bottom of the ladder, its about time to question where the money is spent.

We're heading for a General Election and Farage will give Boris his support. All the safe Tory seats will be won as normal and they won't worry too much about that. Their problem is the Labour strongholds. Unfortuntely a lot of these Labour strongholds, particularly up North and in Wales, voted leave. So these constituencies will be the ones targeted by Farage and his bigotry and hate.

You thick fckers will hand the country to rich men who want to sell off your NHS, your working rights, your taxes, your pensions, your everything. They don't care about you! They want your money.

You working class people championing Farage and Boris and their ilk ought to be ashamed.

Those who believe in the sovereignty of Parliament should be pleased with the Supreme Court's judgement. It isn't for the Govt of the day to ignore the constitutional conventions and precedents established over centuries. The Govt were rightly brought to task over the PM proroguing Parliament to avoid the HoC in particular doing its proper job of scrutinising the Govt's proposals. If our Parliamentary resentatives are prevented from scrutinising the Govt, it's but a short step to a dictatorship and authoritarianism.

There are far right extremists walking the streets.

A young man had the living shit kicked out of him for being non-white, just 500 metres from where I live last month. An acquaintance of mine stepped in, the same happened to him and he spent time in hospital. This is documented in local press in Manchester. There are plenty of far-right extremists prepared to use violence if they can get away with it. Whether the murderer of Jo Cox had issues or not, he used the words Britain First so there was a degree of correlation with far right ideology. He chose an MP that he disagreed with to commit a terrible act.

The points being made last night is that the country is very divided and some of the language being used by the PM is chosen very carefully. It is chosen to heighten division for the purpose of his own political career. The vitriol on Twitter is clear evidence of this.

Female politicians routinely receive death and rape threats. They receive credible threats to their families. By dismissing as ‘humbug’ the requests, from a female politician, to tone down the language used was contemptible. Just a few words to acknowledge this situation would have shown him to be a compassionate and decent human being, albeit one whose politics I disagree with.

There's no problem with that if you feel the article mirrors your view and adds to the debate. I tend not to get involved in this thread like i used to, too much points scoring going on instead of proper debate.

I give a toss. I voted to leave, and now a deal has been agreed, I expect parliament to endorse it, and ensuring the referendum result is honoured.

Typical Corbyn wanting another public vote. How would he like it if he was elected PM, and 3 years later he still hadnt been handed the keys to number 10 Downing Street, with MP's demanding another vote because they didnt agree with the original vote

What on earth are you on about?..trying to twist a worldwide virus to suit your argument that Brexit will cause similar panic
