When was the last time we would have been underdogs playing against Accy? They have had a brilliant start, just 1 defeat and 5th in table. One hell of a job Coleman is doing there

We made a good fist of it today and look miles ahead of where we were 4-5 weeks ago. Sadly it’s the fine margins that are costing us, sloppy errors at the back, missed penalties. Overall though I actually enjoyed the game which is a rarity this season and hopefully we carry on.

I have to say though Kai Bruncker really needs to be released. Every time he comes on it’s just a disaster. He is terrible when chasing a game as he just gives away cheap fouls constantly and if he ever finds the ball at his feet he can’t find a teammate win a pass to save his life. Plus, he can’t even win a header!

Enjoyable game full of incident, shame about the result. Good performance up to the penalty after which we were very poor. Tactics after the penalty were shocking, we played better when they had eleven. Terrible substituions.
Back four played like a unit but still have no idea how to defend balls into the box.
Good performances from O’Brien, Payne and Ball and Wood continues to improve.
Scannells brain fart means we have another less body in the squad for three games.

Well I enjoyed that match and the atmosphere. Yes we know we don’t have quality, but every player put a shift in, and we didn’t get any luck and couldn’t capitalise on the penalty. There first ‘goal’ looked handy, but we can’t expect anything else fro refs. Cools heads were called for when we scored, we need to install that in the players, calm it down then have another go. I actually thought Sunderland were poor to be honest, and unless they improve they can forget about automatics and probably playoffs. Good game management at the end, frustrating though.

Compare that performance to earlier matches. However, we just have to start clocking up points.

Just watched the penalty miss by Payne. Great save from JM but hell, why does Payne need a touch from the rebound? A first time tap in and it's 2 - 2.

I honestly had never appreciated how a poor coach could literally ruin a team especially on the fitness front. We must have been so far off the pace in the first few games compared to how Hopkin has got us running around its actually shocking me.

I'd honestly be prepared to give any of the summer signings a clean slate when they come back now knowing how unfit and uncoordinated with their team mates they were. It wouldn't surprise me if many of this season's injuries were down to our awful fitness (or lack of) training.

Easy peasy when they will be receiving £34mill in parachute payment this season! And several million more which is due this season from the sale of Pickford.

Got to say that Barnsley looked a far better team however the rubber legged Sunderland players knew how to fall over when needed.

Bad sportsmanship to Twit the ball out for a dead ball from the drop ball in second half. Classless act.

Deffo handball for their first goal. Was going a yard wide until their player deflected it in.

Deffo pen and red card for their lad who petulantly kicked out Beckhamesque.

Can't see them getting auto's though.

Re their support. Was good in spells like ours was.

Scannell was having an average game before needlessly giving away a free kick and then couldn't see what happened exactly but we can't afford to lose a fit player from the squad. I hope he is fined a months wages.

In January 2014, Parky lost a lot of players, including his entire left side of his team with Reid and Mezza both ruled out. He had just lost Wells, and replaced him with McLean, and due to injuries we were fielding some right weirdos. I don't even remember a Gary McKenzie.

Davies was put, and a string of others.

Parkinson said it was the toughest time in eleven years of management.

We lost twice that January, and people are still upset with the lack of quality of the signings that Winter (McLean will be remembered forever, no doubt).

Billy Clarke was our top scorer with a whopping 13 goals, so you know put striking options were limited.

    We finished seventh.

Nobody said 'I was happy with our efforts' when McLean couldn't hit a barn door, Davies was injured long term, and we had no left side.

We even lost Pickford for a while that season, with a squad cobbled together and patched up with near double figure loans (who needed time to gel...)

    What are our excuses again...?

Nothing can hide the fact we are having a disgraceful season.

What you got from this team today was the most you're ever going to get out of it. There won't be much more improvement because the quality isn't there

On his performances so far I would say at present he is more comfortable as a wing back than as a full back, so better going forward and ok defensively as long as there is some support.
Although we lost, he was my City man of the match away at Doncaster. He is improving in the full back role though and I like his work rate.

That and the 4-1 on Boxing Day 2000 when they had the Norman Corner and were just leaning over the divide and laughing, utter humiliation.

Looks about right in a Sunderland thread, United thrashed us 6-0 at Old Trafford.
