There will be no spending in January it really is that simple
    I can hear it now
"We will wait till the summer and try and build us a team to get us out of L2"

The penalty miss was the turning point of the game for me
From the sunwin upper it looked far easier to score from the rebound than the actual penalty itself
Nothing to do with bad luck just lack of aggression
The late Sir Bobby would have put that one away keeper as well

You should be more worried about any excuses made in January

Trouble is City are morbidly obese and need a gastric bypass but there's a 3 month waiting list

How many players do people think we need to sign?

I don’t think, contrary to the mass hysteria on here, miles away.

I’d say a dominant CB, left winger, target man type CF and then see what else is out there. Go for real quality rather than quantity

Agree with that but the biggest problem that needs addressing is central midfield. Akpan and Reeves are out for god knows how long and Wright isn't good enough. That leaves us with LOB and JOB both of whom are decent but we still need better as it's our weakest area on the pitch by a mile. Serious investment in that area or we go down imo.

Stick a John Marquis or Keiffer Moore in that team yesterday and we have a chance of winning that game. Sometimes only takes one player to make the dimension of a team to change. Contrary to what Sunderland fans might think there wasn't that much between the two teams in yesterdays game despite their vastly superior wage budget. Whether that remains constant rather than one game? Probably not. I would expect Sunderland to be fighting for a top two place despite not looking any where near as good as Sheffield Utd did two seasons ago. As for us, well until that decent target man comes in we are gonna struggle and couple that with conceding soft goals on a regular basis, then we struggle to pull away from the bottom four.

They are nothing like Sheffield United when they got promoted. So I personally think they will struggle, if they can’t beat us convincingly in our current state, then they really are poor. Trouble for them is the cracks are being papered over. Anyway that is their problem, we have enough of our own to deal with.

Struggling against the team we put out yesterday is nothing to get excited about. Probably shows how far Sunderland have fallen if they do.

Still can't fathom why he didn't just kick that rebound with his right foot.

Regarding quality, then I would say three. Five if we can ship a few out. Thing is ...... If City don't want them, then who will? I can't imagine any of them being willing to drop to National lge level.

If ony the referee was from Dagestan, Jonny Mac wouldn't have had a prayer with the rebound after his penalty save!

Yep - Kinda like Bradfords (so called) ring road. Make a poor decision in one place ....... The bottleneck then only shifts to another. Citys lack of quality numbers up front places more pressure on areas further back.

I've just watched it a few times in slow motion and I'm giving Payne the benefit of the doubt. It rebounds towards him at such pace, he tries to control it first, which involves quickly shifting his weight, and by that time, the oppo player's managed to get his foot in. Just one of those things I reckon.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, at the 12th attempt, yesterday's match was the first time this season that we've had an XG of 2 or more.

Even with a James Hanson of 4 years ago, this team would look completely different.

The ball just keeps coming back!
