Sparks was blowing his trumpet recently saying how well he'd done on the commercial side of the club. In fairness, with an annual turnover around £8.3m, almost the highest in our league, somebody is doing a good job. The bigger question f9r me is how that is being used to improve the first team squad. FFP certainly has a bearing on that but under the current rules, the playing budget could increase to a little over £4.5mill without breaching the FFP rules. Does our current squad look like a £4.5m squad? Not in my opinion. 2 years ago, the playing budget was about £2.4m as per the club's accounts. I don't imagine for one moment that the current squad would be costing the club almost twice what it did 2 years ago. I can only conclude that the extra commercial income Sparks is so proud of isn't finding its way into the playing budget to increase the chances of us getting promoted.

He won't be alone, looking at the defence alone we have six wing backs or full backs vying for two positions and five centre halves trying to get into three.

It's madness, to think at the other end there's one poor sod being flogged to death again

I like the sound of this. We need flexibility to change the system to suit the teans we come across. We didn’t have that this season. As I have already said we need six quality signings and if we can unload a few or send out in loan that would help the budget.

Quite the opposite I'd guess. Smaller squad but better quality. We've all (mostly) been crying out for it last season. Interesting comment around ability to change formation. Sounds good to me.

Hughes can say what he wants in the media but having a squad of 30 and only using the same 18 or 19 all season makes it a waste of resources however you want to dress it up.

Show him around Valley Parade he'll think he's In The Ghetto Aaron will be All Shook Up, so Don't Be Cruel, book him in at the Heartbreak Hotel in Leeds for One Night hoping to get his signature, telling Aaron It's Now Or Never, maybe a Little Less Conversation, saying Follow That Dream if not It Hurts Me to say but we have to Return To Sender on the Mystery Train from the Exchange Station, Bradford City Football Club are not a Puppet On A String and we can get along Without Him, unfortunately if he does not sign a few fans on here will have Suspicious Minds.

I know talk is cheap especially in the football world but see my previous post where the previous Gills owner said at our home game he expects them to "walk it" this season. We shall see but with their wage bill already through the L2 roof and money being spent on such as LED advertising perimeter boards and gimics it could all come crashing down. We already have Boehly making a dogs dinner at Chelsea, the Wrexham guys diversifying into F1 racing and the new Terriers owner with his docu copy of Wrexham non of which relates to putting a ball in the net of a Saturday. Let's concentrate on us, never mind the likes of Gillingham, Harris has a mixed record since Millwall.

If what Nixon says about Banks is true, it will be interesting to see what we do. I distinctly remember Rupp replying to a fan on Instagram saying we'd love to sign him and money was no issue. Not a good look if we sit on our hands.

Even for 250k it's the sort of investment we should make. Proven quality at this level who is still young and will only improve. In a year or so we could fetch 7 figures if he develops properly.

It wouldn't be a summer without us signing Billy Sharp.

Cole Stockton won't drop back down into League Two. He's more than proved himself in a League above whilst playing in an abysmal Morcambe team.

Billy Sharp could still do a job in League 1, despite his age, even if he does drop down into League Two, Id imagine he'd go to Doncaster

Bradley Dack was one of the best CAM's in the lower leagues over the last decade. However, as someone else rightly stated, his injuries have pilled up an he struggles to get a full 90 minutes in. Why would we care about injury prone players?

Besides a brief 6 month stint last season, Wright has no connection to us. He could go anywhere else. He could easily get a team from League One that will offer him regular playing time.

I admire the ambition from some of our fans, but every season we start day dreaming about signing players that are unrealistic to say the least, an then everyone is up in arms when we eventually sign players that we have never heard of.

I didn't know who Harry Lewis was before last season, now he is one of the best shot stoppers in League 2. Many wanted Andy Cook out last year, an he ended up scoring 30 goals. All these big name signings like Smallwood an Chapman, an to an extent, Walker, Failed to live up to expectations so whats to really say who is good enough to sign for us an who isnt?

According to the article, we've offered a significant increase on what he was getting at Swindon.
There becomes a point where we have to move on.

I dont understand? Are we going to go into a promotion chasing season being completely reliant on a 33 year old Andy Cook returning 30 goals again? Are we not going to have capable back up, someone who can come in for rest and rotation periods, maybe even replace if a lack of form?

We need to be bringing in a striker that is capable of pushing Cook to the limits. Health issues aside, it was only a couple of years that Wyke was scoring 30 odd goals in L1!!! He hasn't replicated that in the Championship but we don't need a Championship player. If player is willing, affordable and passes the medicals then I have no issue if he was to return. He has a great pedigree at L1 and L2 level.

A lot of BT members seem preoccupied with our defensive record. Why? Yes we conceded from set pieces, but our overall defensive record was far from dismal!

We conceded 43 goals. Only Leyton, Stevenage, Northampton and Stockport conceded fewer.

Five teams scored more than us and three others exactly the same, and that is with the League’s Top Scorer playing for us.

I want to see City score more goals, concede slightly fewer, but the emphasis must be on finding some other players to share the burden of scoring. I anticipate Cook will struggle to score the same number of goals next season. Only Dennis and Hoskins scored over 20 last season. Stevenage and Orient’s top league scorers only got 17 each, yet they out scored us as teams.

Goal scoring must be the priority. We need to be able to get a goal difference of about 25+, this season it was 18+ and that was with Cook’s magnificent tally.

Sounds like the wheels are coming off at WAGMI towers. Their CEO resigned at the end of the season, word coming out is that they cant afford to hire a new one. Fans online have completely gone against the ownership, with the fan base expecting another relegation battle.

Rumour is that senior players have been told that they can try find moves elsewhere if they want to leave, with James Tilley looking like he's the first key player out the door and it's looking like he should be joining Wimbledon. Budget has been slashed compared to last year, with some fans expecting Scott Lindsay may well resign, who is currently the 5th manager they've had since WAGMI came in. Likely Dom Telford is also asking to leave, a lad from the Manchester area who may want to go back up north?

    ...... Always liked Rupp :D

Good grief - a couple of rumours that may or may not come off and we’re weakening the squad, doing things on the cheap, only focusing on defence.
Talk about knee jerk over reactions

Cook is overweight and old, doesnt fit into Hughes style. Get rid. City fans 2022.

If Cook doesnt sign a new deal we can kiss goodbye to promotion. City fans 2023.

We signed 17 players last summer and a further 7 in January.
To date, we've 'only' signed 6 players and got them all in early on. That to me is how business should be done. 24 players last season is far too many. We shouldn't need to be doing complete squad rebuilds each summer and for me we have done good business and start in a better place than we finished last season
