Sparks was blowing his trumpet recently saying how well he'd done on the commercial side of the club. In fairness, with an annual turnover around £8.3m, almost the highest in our league, somebody is doing a good job. The bigger question f9r me is how that is being used to improve the first team squad. FFP certainly has a bearing on that but under the current rules, the playing budget could increase to a little over £4.5mill without breaching the FFP rules. Does our current squad look like a £4.5m squad? Not in my opinion. 2 years ago, the playing budget was about £2.4m as per the club's accounts. I don't imagine for one moment that the current squad would be costing the club almost twice what it did 2 years ago. I can only conclude that the extra commercial income Sparks is so proud of isn't finding its way into the playing budget to increase the chances of us getting promoted.

If what Nixon says about Banks is true, it will be interesting to see what we do. I distinctly remember Rupp replying to a fan on Instagram saying we'd love to sign him and money was no issue. Not a good look if we sit on our hands.
Even for 250k it's the sort of investment we should make. Proven quality at this level who is still young and will only improve. In a year or so we could fetch 7 figures if he develops properly.Inspector, The Evidence, Tennesseebantam and 10 others like this. -

Cole Stockton won't drop back down into League Two. He's more than proved himself in a League above whilst playing in an abysmal Morcambe team.
Billy Sharp could still do a job in League 1, despite his age, even if he does drop down into League Two, Id imagine he'd go to Doncaster
Bradley Dack was one of the best CAM's in the lower leagues over the last decade. However, as someone else rightly stated, his injuries have pilled up an he struggles to get a full 90 minutes in. Why would we care about injury prone players?
Besides a brief 6 month stint last season, Wright has no connection to us. He could go anywhere else. He could easily get a team from League One that will offer him regular playing time.
I admire the ambition from some of our fans, but every season we start day dreaming about signing players that are unrealistic to say the least, an then everyone is up in arms when we eventually sign players that we have never heard of.
I didn't know who Harry Lewis was before last season, now he is one of the best shot stoppers in League 2. Many wanted Andy Cook out last year, an he ended up scoring 30 goals. All these big name signings like Smallwood an Chapman, an to an extent, Walker, Failed to live up to expectations so whats to really say who is good enough to sign for us an who isnt?Hampshire Bantam, NZBantam, MallorcaBantam and 9 others like this. -

We need to be bringing in a striker that is capable of pushing Cook to the limits. Health issues aside, it was only a couple of years that Wyke was scoring 30 odd goals in L1!!! He hasn't replicated that in the Championship but we don't need a Championship player. If player is willing, affordable and passes the medicals then I have no issue if he was to return. He has a great pedigree at L1 and L2 level.Doodle, Manningham bantam, Bantam75 and 9 others like this. -
We conceded 43 goals. Only Leyton, Stevenage, Northampton and Stockport conceded fewer.
Five teams scored more than us and three others exactly the same, and that is with the League’s Top Scorer playing for us.
I want to see City score more goals, concede slightly fewer, but the emphasis must be on finding some other players to share the burden of scoring. I anticipate Cook will struggle to score the same number of goals next season. Only Dennis and Hoskins scored over 20 last season. Stevenage and Orient’s top league scorers only got 17 each, yet they out scored us as teams.
Goal scoring must be the priority. We need to be able to get a goal difference of about 25+, this season it was 18+ and that was with Cook’s magnificent tally.Sam Mortimer, Craig, Offcomedun and 9 others like this. -
Sounds like the wheels are coming off at WAGMI towers. Their CEO resigned at the end of the season, word coming out is that they cant afford to hire a new one. Fans online have completely gone against the ownership, with the fan base expecting another relegation battle.
Rumour is that senior players have been told that they can try find moves elsewhere if they want to leave, with James Tilley looking like he's the first key player out the door and it's looking like he should be joining Wimbledon. Budget has been slashed compared to last year, with some fans expecting Scott Lindsay may well resign, who is currently the 5th manager they've had since WAGMI came in. Likely Dom Telford is also asking to leave, a lad from the Manchester area who may want to go back up north?

Good grief - a couple of rumours that may or may not come off and we’re weakening the squad, doing things on the cheap, only focusing on defence.

We signed 17 players last summer and a further 7 in January.
To date, we've 'only' signed 6 players and got them all in early on. That to me is how business should be done. 24 players last season is far too many. We shouldn't need to be doing complete squad rebuilds each summer and for me we have done good business and start in a better place than we finished last season -
