Take Reeve's performance up to his injury, average them out and take a point (out of 10) off them and he's still better than the two in possession right now
I'll take 12 games with a fully fit Reeves right at the end of the season, rather than some other club game
This is actually great management from Bowyer. Let's imagine Reeves comes back like his old self (I agree with those who say it's unlikely) then I'm certain, assuming Bowyer's around he'll resign - which would be great as when very good he was a quality L1 player
It's also important that the rest of the squad see a player with Reeve's issues treated fairly - that then reassure's them that they can 'open up' themselves to the manager, should they ever feel even slightly stressed
Hopkin's biggest failure, was the crass treatment of players he clearly didn't understand or couldn't be bothered to

Perhaps you should get in touch with the NHS and get them to update their website with your new, groundbreaking information as they're claiming that "it's also possible to become depressed without there being an obvious reason." on their website.
For someone who claims to have worked with mental health patients your lack of understanding on the topic is appalling.NZBantam, Damo and Dubai bantam like this. -
Trust me here guys, just because someone has a smile on his/her face, doesn't mean life is rosy. Depression runs deeper than a facial expression, and on the other hand you could look at a miserable man, think 'oh hes depressed' but he is a happily married man with the world in his hands. Don't judge on peoples expressions, personality, demeanor.

If it’s depression with Reeves. The injuries and the set backs could be the trigger and that’s made his head go. He’s got the fear and doesn’t want to be injured again.
If it’s so I sympathise with him as someone who’s had issues myself.
I’d just like him back regardless-he was a tidy player and if he gets back to form could be a petit like figure in this division and the one aboveJason McEvan, Yorkieman and Bronco like this. -

But you said it would be in all parties' interests to have a clean break now. I cannot see how that would be in Jake Reeves interests at all. His best chance of resurrecting his career is to play games for us before his contract expires, if at all possible, to attract interest from other clubs. I cannot see why he would accept a clean break at this time. No one would take him on without having played any games for two years so it would be committing professional suicide.
If we tried to sack him without paying him off we'd end up getting bogged down in an acrimonious legal dispute that could drag on well beyond the expiry of his contract and could end up costing us more money than just paying his wages for the rest of his contract.
So it seems to me that our best option is to stick with him, help him recover if possible, and if we do get any games out of him this season then that's a welcome bonus.borderlescott, hippo and RonnieBrown like this. -
All clubs take out insurance on players in case of a injury that will not recover and end a career, For this to happen the medical profession must agree that 1, The player has an injury that can be verified as genuine. 2, That in their opinion the injury is such that the player will not recover from this injury, 3, The injury stops the player from playing the game professionally,
The club has if it feels the conditions for claim have been met the option as above, If the club feels that these conditions are not met they can support the player hoping the player can fully recover before the contract runs outRonnieBrown, Bronco and marshy77 like this. -

I dont think we will ever find out what the issue has been. His contract will run down in June nexr year. He will be released, and then its not our issue anymore

I don't see any advantage in paying his contract up and getting rid. The money can't be used for anything else either way. I assume under FFP (or whatever the lg2 equivalent is) it's irrelevant whether monies are paid in a lump sum or monthly. Therefore better to pay him monthly for the rest of his contract and see what happens. From what I can see he isn't being a "bad apple" and is also contributing to the club in other minor ways

With regards to groin injuries that won't keep you out of the game for 2 years...
An AFL footballer has been out for pretty much 2 years with a case of osteitis pubis that is not showing any signs of getting better yet. Joe Daniher is the players name, he did come back for a few games this year after missing almost all of last season because of the groin issue he has, however he broke down again and was not able to play for the rest of the season missing close to 16 games (in a 22 game season).

In that story it gives a bit of an idea of what osteitis pubis can do to a player, with regards to having to strength in the leg for running and kicking etc...
Here's a bit more info as well...

Now, I am a very long way from being a professional footballer, but I lost about 18 months of playing because of this, came back for a month and bang it was back, I hung up the boots after that.
I'm not saying that this is what he has got, but for someone to say a groin strain won't keep you out for 2 years isn't allowing for the fact that it is more than a strain but a underlying groin/pelvis stability issue.Keefly Bantam, Ollylondonbantam and Stoneski like this. -

For me put him on the bench ease him back with 20 minutes to go as we do with most long term injuries, possibly aiming at 70/90 minutes against Rochdale a week on Tuesday night.Allotment Bantam, RonnieBrown and Offcomedun like this. -
Once again you don't seem to understand the game.
Jake will not be selected to play anywhere like 90 minutes hence my 20 minute comment, it would not be the best option to bring him on when we were 1-0 down but why not I would think the fitness/ conditioning backroom staff wouldnt allow Jake on the bench unless they were sure he could do 20 minutes.
If we send him out on.loan the same would aply he would not be up for 90 minutes, with the situation as @wetherbywhaler says we need to be the ones that nurse him through his return to full fitness.RCarol, Old city man and RonnieBrown like this. -
The Rochdale game in the league trophy, would seem an excellent opportunity for 45 mins for him.
