If it isn't a mental illness then its even more ridiculous he's been collecting a wage from us for this long without playing.

2 years out with a physical injury is just insane. bin him off.

 

Santi Cazorla had 2 years out, and is back at Villareal.

Having said that, I can't imagine any player can be out for 2 years and return at the same level as before.

Hopefully Reeves can, and does it matter if he's insured? No point crying over his inflated premiums from now on.

 

Bin him off and leave it to the lawyers to sort it out. That should save us some money.

 

How? We'd have to pay up his contract which wouldn't save us anything.
Much better to stick with him in the hope that he can come back. It won't cost us any more than paying him off and we might just get an extra central midfielder back before the season ends. Because, without doubt, if Reeves comes back anything like what he was before he'll be a significant upgrade on Akpan, Anderson and Devine. I'd rather have a half fit Reeves as a bench option to shore up a lead at the back end of the season than any of those three.

 

It was an attempt at sarcasm. I agree that sticking is the best option at the moment, although I don't share your enthusiasm for seeing him back in a City shirt.

 

Don't remember his early performances in a City shirt then, pre-injury, in a division above where we now are? Clearly several classes above anything we currently have in CM, with the possible exception of Cooke. Some were even suggesting he was an upgrade on Cullen, which was always ridiculous but gives an idea of how eye-catching he can be.

 

I know what you're saying but although none of us know what's really occurred, the whole business has been unsavoury and my preference would be for all parties to move on when the time is right.

 

Except that Reeves' best chance of moving on and resurrecting his career is surely to play a few games for us before the season's end and his contract expires. Which club is going to take him on if he doesn't?

 

Could he get a run out tonight in a meaningless game in which there is absolutely no pressure? Be lucky if there is over 2k there with it being on Ifollow?

 

Give me a team of committed players willing to get out there and get a result for themselves and for city. Those merely wanting to resurrect their careers and move on are on their own. Are we really going to base team selection on how marketable a player becomes after a few cameo's appearances? Not for me, thanks.

I wasn't thinking about how marketable Reeves would be. His contract is up in the summer, isn't it, so he'd be a free agent anyway, with no potential gain to us.

But you said it would be in all parties' interests to have a clean break now. I cannot see how that would be in Jake Reeves interests at all. His best chance of resurrecting his career is to play games for us before his contract expires, if at all possible, to attract interest from other clubs. I cannot see why he would accept a clean break at this time. No one would take him on without having played any games for two years so it would be committing professional suicide.
If we tried to sack him without paying him off we'd end up getting bogged down in an acrimonious legal dispute that could drag on well beyond the expiry of his contract and could end up costing us more money than just paying his wages for the rest of his contract.
So it seems to me that our best option is to stick with him, help him recover if possible, and if we do get any games out of him this season then that's a welcome bonus.

 

Down tools and refusing to play.

 

No one in their right mind would take a player who has missed the best part of two years of football unless it was some sort of play and pay deal.

 

Nowhere near the quality of Josh Cullen but did show limited promise in his first spell for us. A fit Jake Reeves would be an asset to this squad but looking increasing unlikely to happen.
