Interestingly Ryan Sparks was saying in the T&A this morning that the loans this window could go on to be permanent signings

I agree. Its frustrating, but IF we assume that the club are genuinely planning on the basis of a proper rebuild - new CEO, manager and most players out of contract in the summer, then unless we need a player or two to stave off relegation, we're much better keeping our powder dry and focusing on the longer term plans we need to deploy. As disappointing as it is, I think most fans will take a write-off season on the chin. If however, the club aren't actually planning for the level of rebuild we need, and we're just drifting along (which I fear is the case) then attitudes will change. Fans won't take many seasons like this one and continue to stump up for STs.

Whoever is in charge of the business and football sides of City needs to have a total reset. The club needs to get back to the feel good days of 5-7 years ago or it will eventually wither and die.

    Couldn’t
Couldn’t agree more.Used to love the Saturday routine and the games couldn’t come quick enough.it has definitely felt different and frankly has felt like a bit of a chore for last couple of seasons.Even watching on I follow is hard work and the club will have to work hard to keep the fans who have serious doubts about the clubs aims and ambitions

Our regular group were having a similar discussion when we met up a few weks ago. One of my friends who is in his late 60s now first went to VP when he was 7 with his father and uncle. He hasn't lived in West Yorkshire since he left for Uni in the early 70s. He's lived in the US, Canada and for most of the past 20 years south of London. Now his family live on the far side of Chester.

In all that time, he has had a season ticket even when it meant he could only see one or two games a season because he felt some loyalty or connection with the club. I say this just to show he is no fine weather fan. But he feels exactly as you do and has used the same word to describe the experience - a chore. Once the Covid issue has been resolved, the club has a major task on its hands to get the fans back into VP. And I hope they have already started to formulate a plan on how they are going to do this. There's a lot more to it than just selling cheap season tickets.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I don't think the club has thrown the towel in, as I replied to Mick from what I've seen so far this season there are few stand out teams, as poor as we were against Harrogate (yes they looked a good side on the night) they only scored once and are now slipping down the league.
It's not been great but we have only played 11 games less than a quarter of the season, I'm not writing the season off yet.

I am sick of hearing McCall apologists on the wireless, latest caller blaming Covid, surely every club is in the same position. He goes on to say that the salary cap has hampered McCall, does he not realise that McCall didnt even spend what he had available

    Top post Aireboro.

It beggars belief that McCall has stubbornly refused to look at the free agent market. He is relying on us being out of the bottom two as we enter January, not that he would know, as he stated in the post match interview on Tuesday that he doesnt look at the league table. He is also banking on recruiting 2 or 3 loan players at the beginning of the window. Hoe many times have we managed to recruit at the beginning of the January window, probably never before, it is usually last minute panic recruits on 31st January, which would mean yet another month wasted and probably facing an uphill task to pull clear of the relegation zone.

Very worrying times, this is the most pessimistic I have ever been about our beloved club in 55 years of watching

I mean if you think back to last year, quite a few good players were available on free transfers and loans.

Eoin Doyle, the divisions leading goalscorer moved on, James Vaughan, who was actually the top scorer at his club at the time, moved out on loan as well.

If we can find a club that gives away players like that, we could easily... Wait a second... Never mind.

    Not doubting you pal.

To be honest we don't need to rush him like we seem to do before. He is a talent with a bright future and we should let him recovery and build up his fitness even if it takes a little longer.

We have to O'Connors doing well as a partnership.

James Hanson went up the leagues. Yes, look at him now but he has had a good career and I would rather an injured Hanson than a fit Guthrie. Just saying!

I couldn’t name names, but there’s always been good talent in the national league. I’d like to see our new scouting team identify and pursue some of the best talent in that league (lower to mid twenties in terms of age).

Im not totally against Gilliead signing IF the rumour has any truth.

1- I thought he held his own in L1. Wasnt flash, wasnt awful.
2 - Improves on any of the wide men we currently have.
3 - 6 goals for a struggling L2 side last term. Added the odd goal to his game in last 3 years.

Ideal signing? No. Do I want better? Yes. Not totally against it though. I will give Turnbull the benefit of the doubt on that one. He was only a kid when last here - now he is a man.

Right footed. Can play on either wing, though from what I remember, he does like to cut inside a lot. If he’s improved, then I think he’ll be a decent signing. He wasn’t that bad when he was here. Certainly an improvement on the wingers we’ve currently got. Why would Scunthorpe want to sell him for? Sods law strikes us yet again, as we play Scunny next weekend.

Gilliead was reasonable for us last time, pacey but
no goals in him as such although he has got a few
recently. There are loads of players out there, many
without clubs but we always seem to be blinkered
in our searches and invariably bring back players
who weren't that good before. He is a winger and
better than what we have for that position but lets
look further afield and find a "Turnbull" gem.
