Any idea how much he'd cost?

A key question with employing a Head of Recruitment and new scouts is, are we employing them so we can make measured investments that hopefully reap a financial reward despite costing a little bit of money, or are we hoping they can cut out the need for transfer fees and high wages by identifying good value freebies?

At this level you absolutely do not need to spend transfer fees - unless you're looking to speculate to accumulate.

I have the feeling we will be paying Turnbull's wages in order to save money, though. Could be wrong.

No idea how much he would cost. He’s not scored as many this season as last think he has 5,but he’s only 23/24 and he’s out of contract in the summer according to what I could find on the internet

Noticed one of our previous loanees, Oteh scored the third for Stevenage today.
Thought he was still at QPR but they must want to see him get more game time.

He's never getting in at QPR, surely.

Been on the bench recently for Stevenage, and 22 years old.

Contract expires in the Summer, I'd be STUNNED if they renewed it.

If we are looking to bring players in with an eye to the future we need to recruit 21 year olds or under unless they can fully contribute straight away under 21s don’t count towards the cap. At this moment in time I think we need players who are experienced enough to improve the first eleven

Was Gilliead left footed? He did so little here before so its difficult to remember.

We already have Pritchard and Clarke who are left footed. We need a better right footer than Ismail and DMH that is comfortable without having to come inside

Right footed. Can play on either wing, though from what I remember, he does like to cut inside a lot. If he’s improved, then I think he’ll be a decent signing. He wasn’t that bad when he was here. Certainly an improvement on the wingers we’ve currently got. Why would Scunthorpe want to sell him for? Sods law strikes us yet again, as we play Scunny next weekend.

Gilliead was reasonable for us last time, pacey but
no goals in him as such although he has got a few
recently. There are loads of players out there, many
without clubs but we always seem to be blinkered
in our searches and invariably bring back players
who weren't that good before. He is a winger and
better than what we have for that position but lets
look further afield and find a "Turnbull" gem.

Good article in the T&A saying all the right things. Fingers crossed it translates into good actions!

Being cynical, it's the usual propaganda. We've been here numerous times before and that is where the issue lies.
Actions as always will speak louder than words.
I Wont be suprised when we're fishing in the usual sh!tpool come 31st Jan.
Wonder whom will be this transfer window's Kiefer Moore.
Although I do Genuinely hope I'm wrong and the Sparks/Turnbull revolution begins in earnest.
    Time shall tell

    I'd go for Jarrod Bowen.

With a bit of luck could emulate Jesse Lingard one day and play for England.

We should definitely go in for Wheater from Oldham ,he is someone that Paudie can learn from plus he chips in with a few goals. I can't understand why Kewell would leave him out in the cold unless he felt threatened for some reason, maybe he was very popular in the dressing room. I personally wouldn't bring Gilliead back ,for all his pace and effort he doesn't produce much. The guy from Borehamwood would be a gamble but if our interim team think they can do something with him then fair enough.

Looks like Hiwulia might be available again with Swindon interested. He would be perfect for the left sided attacker in the way we are lining up at the moment

    New rule.

If they've been here before, let's not discuss them.

The transfer rumours thread should be interesting, not dull as ditch water.

Isn't wheater a bad egg ? Not sure he's the kind of personality that rookie managers need, though perfect for one who knows how to handle them like Parkie

Oldham statement on wheater from November

In the interests of keeping fans up to date and maintaining communications, Oldham Athletic would like to clarify the situation with regards to one of its contracted players, David Wheater.

Whilst normally we would like to keep all non-playing matters with players private it has become necessary due to the amount of misinformation and conjecture on all social media platforms that we clarify why David is not currently part of the first team squad.

Everyone associated with our club will be aware that all of the 72 teams affiliated to the EFL have dealt with their players in various ways due to the Covid-19 virus and we are pleased to state that all legal matters associated with those players in dispute at Oldham Athletic have been resolved, including with David Wheater.

The club is aware that the player has publicly announced that he wishes to play for Oldham Athletic and in that respect the club needs to make it known the reasons why this has not been possible. It is disappointing that David has not provided the information below as he is very active normally on social media and a simple message from him about his situation may have avoided the necessity for the club to act in this way. It must also be stated that at no stage has the club advised the player that he will not be required to play football.

    1. David was unable to train due to testing positive with Covid-19 in early September prior to the EFL season commencing and was therefore in isolation for a period of 10 days.
    2. On returning after the illness, he was selected to play in a game during which he came into collision with a team-mate and sustained a concussive head injury requiring him to rest from training or playing for a minimum of two weeks followed by a graded return to training.
    3. After the initial period of recovery the player reported a back injury which he stated he had sustained when ‘lifting his dog’. He is still currently under treatment by the medical team for this injury.
Finally, David recently moved to a new house, this was firstly a concern to the club due to Whereabouts and Anti-Doping regulations and equally importantly involves a potential round trip of over 200 miles which is not considered suitable by the club for a full-time professional in training especially one who is currently having medical treatment, certainly if his intention is to reside permanently at this property.

The club is fully committed to supporting all of its players both on and off the pitch and will therefore continue with the medical treatment required to get David back to full fitness.

It’s been suggested to me that his club are trying to ‘force him out’ due to wage issues.

The dog issue, is reminiscent of Matt Clarke! https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/leeds-survive-bradford-blitz-1.255186
