100% on the money. I was saying to a pal I went with at the cambridge game, I suspect other teams are reticent to take him on for the wedge he's most likely on with us, who'd want to pay a 31 year centre forward coming off the back of a crap season mega money. For me he did try against Cambridge but he was just god awful, was Bruenker standard pretty much. Basic control, basic passing, basic shooting, no real strength or snap in the challenge (which at least Kai could do), poor and unintelligent movement, often saw him making identical runs to Vaughan/Donaldo and just generally getting in the way. I'm not one to pour scorn on players unfairly though, as I thought AOC in contrast had a good game and looked an improved player, if still an arsehole. O'Donnell apart from some dodgy kicking on a couple of occasions dealt well with the limited threats he was faced with.

Spoke to an Oldham fan today, says Doyle is a 6 yard box man and they would have him back tomorrow, so why not play to his strengths?

Because Donaldson and Vaughan are better so I'd rather play to their strengths and leave Doyle on the bench. A supersub role could be his way to salvation with us but I don't even have much faith in him to affect games late on.

Doyle is 4 months older than Vaughan. Okay they have different styles, but from what I have seen so far, there is far more drive and determination in Vaughan’s play than there is in Doyle’s performance. Now it may well be that he is ‘great’ in the six yard box, but that is a very small area and it is now often difficult to concentrate play in or around the box. I see no clever or quick movement from Doyle, in which he could get shots away. He may have a decent history, but sadly that is what it is, in the past.

Scary to think Doyle on age is the senior player. Like chalk and cheese in so many ways. Vaughan got scraps yet still managed to pull an overhead kick out the bag, the only overhead Doyle has in his locker is letting the ball fly over his head as he fails to contest yet another 50/50. Him and Akpan are the priorities to shift for me, everyone else is either slowly redeeming themselves or young enough to not quite be a lost cause yet.

How about Bowyer only started Doyle because McCartan was short of gametime?

Wouldn't be surprised, that role looks ideal for Mccartan imo.

Agreed. Plus he might improve our free kick and corner output.....wasn't impressed with Palmer's set pieces (though did like his general play).

Likewise, was quite disappointed with how little we created from set pieces, especially so given some of the units we've got in the squad now.
