If Blackpool still interested, lets test them by suggesting a swap for Jay Spearing

Firstly, not everyone is saying that and secondly, if he does go, do you really think Bowyer won't have a replacement lined up? He isn't stupid and knows as well as you do that injuries happen and we need back ups.

There are mitigating circumstances to his form of last season and this should be taken into account when assessing the merits of Doyle as a player. After watching him last season and despite those circumstances I would have to weigh this up with the salary that he is reportedly on. His wage could bring in two good players at this level and tying that with what i saw last season i would definitely let him go if a club was willing to take him. He didn't impress me with his allround game even after taking into account him being used in a role not completely suited to him. He's painfully slow, watching Vaughans speed of thought and movement and Donaldsons strength and hold up play showed me the sort of things i so badly missed watching Doyle and Miller.

Doubt we will get anybody as proven or accomplished as Doyle.

Of course he was going to try hard, Bruenker knew he should have been no where near a professional football club.

So even the penalties Doyle won and then scored, don't count?

You can't pick and choose, he scored 11 goals last term, that's fact.

    Completely agree on almost points.

For much of last season there was discussion about the need to add 'presence' up front. Some equate that to needing a big striker. But for me, presence is about retaining the ball in the final third to give your side a platform to attack and build pressure. There are different ways to do it and it's a part of every strikers job.

Look at Vaughan - similar size to Doyle but in an hour against a championship side, his movement, touch, awareness of what was around him were markedly better than Doyle showed at any point last season.

Thought Mellor had a decent enough game going forward. For some reason we seemed to ignore him when in space on a few ocassions.

Here's a scenario for you. If Doyle leaving meant we could sign a replacement forward who will score us 8 goals from open play next season, and also have enough to bring in a decent central midfielder, would you take that?

I just don't agree with the obsession of defending his poor performances and deflecting the blame on anyone other than Doyle. Let's not make excuses for him, he was disappointing last season and I say that even when you account for external factors. I'm not saying he can't turn it around- he has a good track record and might be able to discover the form that made him successful in the past.

For what we'll get in return for moving on a high earning reserve player who may or may not come good though it's a no brainer. I'd much rather we got rid of Akpan instead but if we have to move on Doyle to strengthen in more urgent areas then so be it

Vaughan once and Donaldson also twice. However in about 45 minutes I've seen more from those two than Doyle over a whole season, they look to have actual footballing attributes and a bit of nous as opposed to watching Doyle offer absolutely nothing. Can't hold the ball up, can't pass, can't even shoot that well, no strength or pace and he cried once when he got booed. But lets keep him cos he did alright at Chesterfield the other year or something after a year of being completely gash for us. The other thing is, other players from last season have got their heads down and showed more so far this pre season, yet Doyle and Akpan are still crap.

I don't think I am, I would argue a lot of people are going over the top defending him because of how he performed everywhere except at city.Which in my view after a full season of watching him crap team or not, is still not enough to build the team around him to the extent he can score. Onside hit the nail on the head in saying he needs all the ducks lined up perfectly to perform and frankly thats a luxury we can ill afford at any level let alone L2.

show me at any point in the season where he demonstrated any of those attributes. He's 31, on most likely silly money for a back up striker and hasn';t shown anything different so far this season when plenty around him have.

As has been said above though, its been well and truly done to death now. I think he's a load of pap and others evidently don't, which is fair enough and we'll see whats what in the coming season. Which I for one am very positive about having seen the new signing sand having watched us play a couple of times so far. Like night and day compared to last year and long may that continue.

He was very poor today, but a lot of the blame for that rests on Bowyer shoulders, his best position is alongside a target man, he should be nowhere near the team in a 4-3-3- formation< or whatever it was today

When i see a forward i want him to be able to beat the defender either for pace or physicality. If he doesn’t have that i want him to have footballing brain that allows these deficiencies to be less of a factor. I just fail to see what Doyle brings to the table. Apart from falling over a lot.

Good god how many 'who should be the new manager' threads have you contributed to before the existing one was sacked. In fact I think you start most of them.

Doyle is one of the worst 'proven' strikers I've ever seen at the club...maybe on a par with McLean.

Doubt he would be difficult to replace if he went. Maybe one of those dummies they use to build a wall in training?
