It amazes me how fans see the same player differently. Doyle from what I have seen puts a shift in but in a role that doesn’t suit him. Hopefully he will be better with other doing the physical work and him doing the finishing

 

Only time Doyle broke into a trot was when he was being substituted

 

Massive difference in showing leadership in pre season games and when the going gets tough during the season. I get what you're saying but I'm not sure Doyle is that type of player that shows that emotion/fist pumping/shouting at players.

For all the good things Vaughan has done or shown so far, I'll reserve judgement until we all fully into the flow of the season. Got this feeling that Vaughan could easily get his back up over certain things if they don't go his way.

Definitely, still the whole season to go yet and undoubtedly some adversity to over come at some point so we shall see what they're made of then! That's fine but it brings me back to the same question, just what is he good at and what does he do? I know folks disagree with me, this is just my opinion based on watching him over last season but I can't see what value he adds to the side apart from being ginger.

Very true mate and a good point about Vaughan, having said that I think the responsibility Bowyers placed on him with the captaincy and signing him to be a leader in the dressing room should keep his passion on the positive side and not petulant. I think 5/6 years ago you'd be dead right cos he does seem a bit combustible, but hopefully his experience has taught him the better of that.

He won an actual header too, even though there was a player ten yards away. I thought for sure he would lose that physical battle when the lad looked directly at him.

 

He was very poor today, but a lot of the blame for that rests on Bowyer shoulders, his best position is alongside a target man, he should be nowhere near the team in a 4-3-3- formation< or whatever it was today

 

Oh great, another player who doesn't play well game after game, but it's the fault of formations, managers, players around him, etc etc.

Dont get me wrong, not been a fan at all, and I would prefer to get rid and bring a forward in with more pace. However, if you look at his career, his best seasons were alongside a targetman in a 4-4-2. If Bowyer doesnt like the 4-4-2, there is no point in playing him

 

Fair enough, I can't see him playing well regardless of the formation - perhaps in a poor team who are under the cosh more often than not and his airy fairy football is more useful on the break alongside a lump who just flicks on headers, maybe.

But in a good side with the bulk of the ball, Doyle won't be much use in any formation.

 

I agree, i’m no fan of Doyle whatsoever but asking him to play that role today was just hanging him out to dry. Its something i’d expect Hopkin to do, i certainly didn’t think Bowyer would do it. For a forward player he is painfully slow to a point where unless the ball is played directly at him he will never get the ball.

 

Guy has been lazy and careless from day 1. Hilarious that anyone thought playing him in a playmaking position would work when he lacks everything needed for it.

 

I'm sure you mean that he SHOULDN'T be anywhere near the team, whichever formation we use.
