I've noticed a lot of threads being taken over by personal inside jokes, rather than the topic of the post. Are admins monitoring this? It's really annoying.

On topic, we should keep him. Vaughan is injury prone, and Donaldson is old. We need quality back up which Doyle offers, you could even argue he'd be the main striker for any team in this division.

 

Please can you detail Vaughan's recent injuries?

 

Anyone who has been to the friendlies will tell you Patrick is not good enough for League 2, as his loan spell at Yeovil also showed.

Doyle is a complete luxury backup option in comparison given his history of scoring goals in the Champ, L1 and L2. Keep Doyle, please.

 

Agree with this, if the only thing to take out of the pre season is that we badly need cover beyond the front two then so be it.
Whilst doyle hasn't for whatever reason been the signing we all expected, letting him go without signing a proven replacement would be a massive mistake.

Its likely we won't get a full season out of vaughan and/or donaldson, so having to revert to Patrick or a make do formation simply won't be enough.

 

Which, in fairness could also be said of midfield ? If Doyle were to go and not be replaced ..... Imagine say losing the Don or Vaughan in addition to Palmer, and we'd be pretty much screwed. If not, then extremely limited.

Could be Danny Hylton, who is one of their targets, or it could well be Doyle on his way to Salford perhaps?

 

I was going to mention this earlier. However, as 'someone' is prepared to match Doyles current income - WHAT is the delay ? Which is why I suspect that the player in question is not Doyle. Surely he'd want away ASAP, and enjoy a preseason with his new 'mates' ?

 

The player referenced in the article is Nicky Maynard, who signed for Mansfield after scoring 22 for Bury last season.

I'm surprised you've said it could have been Doyle, as that doesn't fit with the story. The player being discussed has gone, and been missed out on, so it can't be Doyle.

I don't think there has been any offers for Doyle.

 

I agree with the last bit it is a player already moved but there is nothing to suggest it’s Maynard. Also less than two weeks ago Wellens said he was 100% on signing a striker and 95% on the other

 

It is Nicky Maynard, 100%.

They also signed Walsall's top scorer Andy Cook, they're splashing out and offering top wages.

With Cook and Maynard up front, Mansfield have just as much justification to expect to be up there.
