If..Doyle goes big mistake

He often made space but we rarely played it to him. He can’t be blamed for that.

But can I remind you that he’s a right back first and foremost, not a bleedin winger. He may not have excelled but he did ok. He certainly wasn’t “gash” as you put it...!

 

What frustrated me was that neither full back took it to the byline. I was just bemoaning the fact when Mellor did just that, no goal but we gained a corner.

What a bizarre ramble - not surprising coming from the guy that says he isn't argumentative, then is consistently the only one to find issue with post after post.

Anyway, no, I wouldn't expect Paudie to be able to play up front, and have never said players can play anywhere.

But Doyle played all last season up front, his favoured position, but apparently it wasn't fair because he was being asked to play as a target man, which is a duff argument in the first place. Now, this season, he had TWO target man alongside him, but that still wasn't right because he found himself behind the front two rather than... well, that's the question, isn't it? Slightly further forward? Slightly left, slightly right?

Either way, he's a forward who has done a very poor job as a forward for over a year now, and still excuses get made about why he's not playing in quite the right role as a forward.

Maybe, just maybe, he isn't very good.

It isn’t a stupid comment about Doyle being asked to play a position last season that he wasn’t suited to. He does his best work facing the opposition goal, not with his back to it.

And he’s not a play-maker either, so sitting behind a front two doesn’t help either. If he plays in a front 2 alongside Donaldson, with crosses coming into the box from wide areas, we would see the best from him.

That isn’t making excuses for him. His game is very one-dimensional and there is no point asking him to play a role that he’s not going to fulfil. Did Liverpool play Robbie Fowler as a no10 and then moan that he didn’t impact the game???

 

How exactly do you know what his best position is, when he hasn't performed well at all for us?

 

Because he has performed in that role for other clubs?! Did I really need to explain this?

Perhaps you should stick to organising plane fly-overs. Maybe you can arrange one for Doyle and telling him how gash you think he is.

 

Is that genuine knowledge, or are you just thinking "he played with a big lad, so the big lad had his back to goal and Doyle was facing goal"?

What were the majority of his goals like when performing in this very specific forward role?

Were most the result of flick ons?

Were they headers?

Shots?

Penalties?

On the break?

Breaking down defences?

You seem to have the facts on how Doyle did so well at Chesterfield and Oldham, but failed everywhere else, so please feel free to share

 

It is your last sentence that is antagonistic, and why ppl are saying you are argumentative. It isn’t that you have a different view, it is the animosity you generate to try ‘to get one over’ on the poster you are debating with.

Some never learn, it must have been around March that the last of the Rahic apologists finally succumbed. However over more than a season now we've still got some telling us several managers have got it all wrong and its not Doyle.

I think he’s better than he shows but seems to lack confidence. Strange player, he’s seems to play within himself, nervous on the ball never knows whether to stick or twist.

Last night, I saw Fordy getting called a d!ck, a p!llock, and many other names because he started the thread that he did. Trevor did similar and didn’t come in for the same level of abuse. If you think we’re all on a level playing field, you’re wrong..!

 

I didn’t compare Doyle to Fowler. I compared their situations. Played up top in a consistent team, alongside a centre forward and fed with crosses, he has scored goals. That’s a fact mate, not a comment from an apologist.

But played on his own, with his back to goal, or sitting outside the area and asked to link up with two further advanced players, with very little service m, simply will not see the best of him.... just as it wouldn’t with ANY (is that better) goalscorer.

First half he was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. Disappeared a bit second half but deserved the MOM award

This sums up folk on here. Fordy gets called more than half a dozen names and not one person called them out for it. Yet as soon as I make a remark (no name calling), the website goes into meltdown. Some of you need to remember that the rules apply to ALL and not just the ones you don’t like the sound of...!

 

He had a lot of the ball down the right hand side but produced nothing. His distribution to the front 3 was poor. I think when a performance like that (not terrible but not great) wins MOTM then it’s easy to see that the overall team performance didn’t meet the fans expectations.
It needs to be much better next week at Grimsby with more pace and urgency in our play.
I’m hoping to see Scannell and McCartan start, in place of Anderson and Doyle.
