Ah, very good question. Because I've recently had an issue with the approach a teacher took in my daughters English class on the subject of BLM, which I've raised with the school and which they've acted on. And the crux is - I dont care about a teachers personal beliefs and opinions, as long as they dont colour the approach taken in the classroom. I'm a massive believer in teaching kids to think think critically and presenting a range of materials on any subject for kids to form their own opinions, which they can articulate reasoning behind.

Could help if a few premiership footballers ,especially black, stood up and recognised the hypocrisy of it all...

Can’t see footballers wearing BLM for much longer, whilst I agree with the slogan I can’t agree with an organisation that wants to defund the police in this country. Having seen what 10 years of austerity has done to it, I want more funding not less, it’s an appalling sentiment imo.

Football already has the kick it out campaign, I hope they go back to promoting that instead.

The hypocrisy by left wing politicans, commentators and lefties in general - coupled by the media on this whole BLM movement is truly shocking.

The way Floyd died was disgusting, the copper needs to be severely punished but using Floyd as a poster boy for the BLM movement is disgusting. The man was a scum bag. There are plenty of black people who have died who deserve far more recognition than him.

The ironic part, the vile ANTIFA that have infiltrated the BLM movement have been responsible for a lot of black deaths since Floyd was killed. I also saw a little black girl called Secoriea Turner aged 8 was killed this past weekend and her car shot at during BLM protests because he parents tried to drive through the crowd to get to safety.

Silence by the media because it doesnt fit the narrative and help the agenda. So glad that folk are starting to wake up and see what BLM is all about though. Companies distancing themselves but why now - just look at their website and see what they are.

The BLM message is fine. They matter. But the movement and the people are despicable.

No, it doesn't sicken me. I don't mind anybody expressing their support for these kinds of actions if it's what they believe in. I do object to making it compulsory or enforced in some way as seems to be the case in some sports which I guess is whereyou're coming from. I did admire how the F1 teams handled it in Austria on Sunday with some drivers kneeling and others simply standing there quietly and I think that's how it was handled yesterday at the test match. It's a shame that the BLM movement has been hijacked by other causes which have nothing to do with black issues and as I've said on here previously, being associated with a whole load of unconnected issues will dilute the impact of the BLM movement itself and put a question mark over its future.

Yesterday afternoon there was a peaceful demonstration in Nashville, attended by the mayor and other leaders. When the BLM protests kicked off a few years ago, civil leaders and police organized protests. Including the group going on the interstate and stopping traffic for a while. The point I'm making here is that Nashville has a history of peaceful protests. Sadly last night it went off the rails. Some leaders have mentioned out if town troublemakers, who knows but it has no place anywhere. I can't connect protesting a very justified grievance to looting and setting fire to a "western boot" store.
My big concern about the George Floyd situation was the apparent disconnect between the attorney general, the Police union and the mayor. The mayor fired all the police as soon as the videos came to light. The Police union took the "don't rush to judge, all is not as it shows on the videos" line. I guess the attorney general was playing golf or something but he finally had the main guy arrested The governor lwas also really pissed off that it took so long for the arrest to be made . I think it will stay bumpy for a while but I also think that in some places we will still see peaceful protests. The problem now is the violent protests that are nothing to do with the point being protested

There is no justification for the rioting, looting and extreme violence we have seen over the passed few days.

Floyds killer has been sacked and arrested and I am sure justice will prevail.

under cover and covert policing have been a stable tool of the Police for many a year especially within protest groups, So no surprise if the police in America do the same

There are numerous people in positions of power and influence across the country which are occupied by non white men. You won't find a football club in the country without a significant portion of non white players. Ditto for other sports and entertainment industries.

I work as part of an executive team which consists of 6. We have a female CEO. 2 of the 6 exec are white males, of which I'm one. On a monthly basis we examine our resourcing profile to look at roles occupied and recruitment decisions on the basis of various categories - I find it uncomfortable to an extent; but our over riding policy is 'best person for the job', in all cases. 48% of our workforce is female- which in and of itself is neither a good or bad thing. And the majority of role grades have a fairly even and proportionate make up of various genders, sexualities and races.

This idea that white males have 'privilege' is horseshit. In this and every other developed country that comes to mind, the success you have in life is based almost entirely on how hard you work, the choices you make, the sacrifices you and your parents make and how intelligent you are . Simple as that.

Sounds like your company has a reasonably robust recruitment system.

More than half of FTSE 100 companies don’t have anyone of an ethnic minority on their board. 75% of the UK’s biggest tech firms don’t, either. Why is that?

I’m not suggesting for a moment that society is by default easy to navigate purely by virtue of being a white male, but the bare facts are that - controlling for other factors - being black makes you less likely to succeed in life.

The biggest predictor of success in life, if defined in financial terms, is the wealth and income of your parents. Of course there will be exceptions and outliers to this and I don't doubt that personal drive can have an impact on that.

However, the birth lottery exists in this country and why huge inequality continues to exist and grow.

Honestly, you should spend some time in a school which is in a an area of high deprivation. See what children are exposed to and living with and then ask yourself if working hard will change their lives. For the vast majority, it just won't. They aren't lazy children, or not bright, but they have so many barriers to overcome.

Your work hard example, I agree, can play out on a level playing field. Unfortunately millions of people don't get access to that playing field through no fault of their own.

We, as a society as a whole, are failing these children and allowing inequality of opportunity to perpetuate.

That can’t be true, his family all say he was such a nice and kind guy /s

It is one of the problems, not only does the fact that most deaths by cop happen to someone who was committing a crime at the time but their family and friends always try and spin it in them being these wonderful human beings so it comes across totally unprovoked meaning they don’t have to face the contributing factors that they could as a community take steps to combat.

We saw the same here in 2011 with Mark Duggan, a guy well known to authorities as a drug dealer and co-founder of a notorious gang who had been under surveillance and was armed at the time of him being but ofc it was totally unprovoked as he was a good family just because his family, friends and community didn’t want to have to face facts and would rather put all the blame on others.

Until the underlying social, economic and cultural factors are examined without constraint or prejudice, nothing will be resolved. In fact, the increasingly left wing, woke approach to tackling racial issues will lead to a very bad place for many people, in my opinion.

The organisers should be held to account for every death that results from this protest.

Quite ironic that in about 14 days a good number of these people who are BAME will be needing some sort of hospital treatment. and eventually statistically are more likely not to make it.

Let's infect thousands of people that will likely kill hundreds in the coming weeks because we are outraged that one man was killed. Now lets go about killing some more eh?

Maybe this is natural selection at its finest?

Cummings deserved the stick he's getting but let's not be silly and lay the blame of all the worlds ills at his door. That would be stupid and childish. The fact this demonstration went ahead when all involved know full well the implications of social distancing is pretty sad despite the reasons behind it.
