That's not strictly true, anyone can take their employer to an unfair dismissal tribunal because there are a huge range of exceptions to the 2 year rule that makes it pretty much redundant. It's certainly a lower risk though for employers dismissing anyone serving less than 2 years but there's absolutely no guarantees.

Do we know if the bloke in question has served less than two years or the reasons given for his sacking? I'm just wondering if this debate is irrelevant anyway?

 

Gross misconduct by bringing the company into disrepute is what I read somewhere. Not seen anything about length of service

That seems a very short list? I realize you've googled it but you don't have to be legally educated to realize there's some glaring omissions.

 

to be honest I thought there were more including race, disability, religion, sexual orientation etc that are covered by protected characteristics but not according to government website.

 

turns out you can not claim unfair dismissal for those things under 2 years. You would claim for discrimination instead

 

iirc if youve been there less than a year they can just bin you off, was brought in by camerons government.

edit: less than 2 years and you have no right to claim unfair dismissal

 

It's been discussed above but there's lots of ways you can claim unfair dismissal regardless of the amount of time you've been at a company.

Don't rock the boat even if what your saying is fact and can be proven , Bolton says "is it really helpful at this time of heightened concerns with regards black lives matter" if they are the truth now do they change once these protests stop.
We keep hearing people say we need a grown up discussion with regard racism etc yet when a comment like the Ex- Met police chief Kevin Hurley quotes the facts on killings the debate is shut down.

The police have lost control. They've had it wrestled from them. Despite the words of people like Khan and Patel 'not tolerating attacks against the police', that's exactly what they're doing. Tolerating it. They're not being backed to take a strong stance through fear of being painted racist. The battle is lost and I fear we'll see more and more violence and more and more shocking scenes of the police running away. Unless its 'football lads', then the riot gear will come out.

I watched ITV News at Ten last night to catch up. There was no mention of what happened in Brixton the previous evening. I'm not sure if there was coverage earlier on in the day on their news programmes, but it is as though nothing happened.

This very one sided reporting by the TV news channels has to stop.

 

It's because they scared as we are of uncontrolled immigration legal or otherwise and uncontrolled protests, rioting and lawlessness in general.
This government has a strong enough majority to carry their policies through and would have the backing of a large majority of decent people...

 

I'm not sure the Tories are prepared to go along with taking the press and other media on, remember when Labour tried to get papers to be more responsible with their reporting (phone tapping etc) or the law might be changed to control the media the Tories were very much against it and eventually the all clear was given for the media to self regulate.

 

From justice for George to this. i don't think she understands this black lives matter stuff from others perspectives. How exactly is this sort of thing like her campaign helpful at all? All she is doing is creating divide, exactly the sort of thing she should be campaigning against. Special feckwit award for sky for running with the article.

 

To add to this, she is clearly looking for a racial agenda to her campaign which isn't there at all. Trying to make the point that black businesses are somehow discriminated against because they are a minority is bullshit. Going on about hair products being hard to find, simple answer is for her to set up her own business selling black hair product and by her admissions she would rake it in if she marketed it properly.
