I understand that most people might be cooped up at home at the moment rather than being out shopping( !) or down the pub. But let's cut out all of the personal attacks. It does nobody any credit. Thanks

The hospitality sector is being thrown under the bus to make it look like those in charge are doing something.
The 10pm curfew has no effect on the rates, there is no scientific evidence behind it, it's simply plucked out to make it look like something is being done.
The rule of six could be a rule of four, five, seven, eight, etc. It's just a figure plucked out of the air to make it look like things are being done. How can a rule where someone could have 5 other household within their home be seen safer than a family of 4 meeting up with a family of 3 at a park to play football and ride their bikes. Call it out for what it is, it's bollocks.
The new Scottish Rules which idiots like the cabinet will be discussing right now will lay waste to the hospitality sector in north. Before schools and universities went back the highest rates in the UK were comfortably under 100 per 100k. Now schools and universities are back rates are over 500 per 100k in parts of the UK. So where is the science to suggest a rule of six, a 10pm closing or the hospitality sector play any part in these rates?
I don't blame the schools or universities and I believe that education should be prioritised but lets not thrown a whole sector under the bus as a distraction for what is really causing the spike. Instead of shuting the whole hospitality sector wouldn't it be a good idea to have home based learning at universities instead? Who sanctioned the universities going back with thousands of students moving but appears to take no blame for what is happening.
The governments and ruling parties in Scotland, Wales and England are directing the blame to an easy target and have let it roll from there. It's one of the reasons they keep throwing out there for not allowing fans back into football grounds, because as far as they are concerned, everyone who enters a football ground is a hooligan who has spent all day in the pub and is tanked up, which is utter rubbish.
We are allowing the government to run the agenda no questions asked and focusing in the wrong areas. This is a great diversion from the complete cluster feck of losing 16k test results.
The leaders in the north led by Andy Burnham are starting to call out this for what it is, a bingo machine full of policies with no scientific basis in order to apply restrictions that don't work with no end game.
We have had restrictions in Bradford applied when the rate was 54 per 100k, about 80% of the country is way above that but are under no lockdown, and we aren't going to be coming out of lockdown at all as things stand and for what cause? We are told 80% of transmission is via household mixing, that is banned and has been banned since July, so this stat is garbage, and if it isn;t where is the proof? Hancock's never line of defense is to not let the virus rip as a way to deflect the Shizzle policies that are having no effect.
The people are no longer on board, and when you lose the people you quickly lose power. If the government can't back up their actions or won't back up their actions with facts everything will soon be ignored.RCarol, bantam2708, Nottsy and 6 others like this. -
Forget giving the MP’s a 3 grand pay rise. A hearty thank you, a green badge and a banging of a pan on a Thursday night should be enough.

We can go on being ultra cautious but with most of us jabbed up I think we have to learn to live with it like we do with Flu and measles. Let’s get us all back in the ground next season.

In this respect, I understand we are getting close to having an antibodies test that will indicate if you have had the virus (as opposed to a test that shows whether or not you currently have the virus), which will help in this respect. In the meantime I understand we are going to ramp up the current testing, with priority for key frontline personnel.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... As some will recall, I have a professional emergency planning background. A week or two back I criticised Boris for being slow to react to this virus; someone else described him as like a rabbit caught in the headlights and I agreed.
Others have pointed out how high our numbers are (for those with the virus and fatalities) compared to most countries and it's clear that we were both slow off the mark and that our strategy was questionable.
Well not anymore; we are now falling in line with other countries and with WHO recommendations.
And now some praise for Boris and the vast team of people who will be supporting him in implementing our response: The logistics of organising the necessary response to this virus are complex and immense almost beyond comprehension. Every change that we make has to be carefully considered, both in terms of how it will be delivered and in how it will impact on everything else. Believe you me there will be many heroes out there, working their socks off to put this all together.
We now need our scientists to deliver the answers we all hope for.
In the meantime, it is down to our government, our key workers and all of us to keep going. From the scientist developing that vaccine to the delivery driver keeping us supplied, from our wonderful NHS staff to each individual trying to hold their families together, we are all in this together and we all have a role to play.
We are all going to have to accept that, for the foreseeable future, we live in a different world and, when this over, the world we go back to will not be the one we have just left. But maybe, just maybe, it will be a better world, for what we have all been through together.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... The media are the proper twats in all this.
First question after the closing of schools. When is the underground shutting.
This creates panic and the feckwittery we see manifesting itself in supermarkets, etc.RCarol, Bantamsteve, Bronco and 5 others like this. -

Crises do bring together a real sense of community spirit though. I nipped out to put the bins out, around 8ish , just a mundane task but the whole street came out to applaud me.

You call out a criticism of why 20K ventilators weren't put into storage after earlier reviews. But you're the sort of person who, if that had been done, before February you'd have slaughtered the government for a horrendous waste of cash. And without any sense of irony at all, you say we should've learned from China? Maybe if they hadn't try to cover this up, murdered whistleblowing doctors and destroyed test samples - we could have done!

I think Boris is doing a decent job and trying his best to do everything possible to help everyone out .
Certainly helped my family in this desperate time.
He's a prime minister not a Dr or scientist!
So glad Boris is in charge rather then Theresa May or that prick Corbyn .
Think Fordy has made himself look at right Twit throughout this thread and I normally chuckle and enjoy reading his babbleRCarol, ConnecticutBantam, Jayteebee and 5 others like this. -

It’s poor when people’s political bias gets so blatantly brought into it, and it’s be the same if Corbyn had it from some on the other side. He’s still a human with a child on the way, hope he makes a speedy recovery. It also brings it home that if the leader of a first world country can get it and be seriously effected then anyone can, stay safe.
