Blah, blah.....Keep going on about the price structure.

Think back to last Sunday. 22576 tickets sold, 1900 from Orient, 14300 season tickets, so you're talking over 6,000 walk ups at full price for that game!!! That's nearly 45% of the season tickets. 66% of the Stockport average. Our average is nearly 4000 above season tickets and that isn't away fans so we get a very decent number of walk ups.

Don't belittle it, more fans and we've attracted more sponsorship and off field earnings as a result of the fanbase.

What is wrong with affordable football? If it wasn't for affordable football I wouldn't have been able to afford to take my two lads when they were younger so not building that relationship and now they've been going for over a combined 30 years in total. Completely addicted.

People moan about the cost of football higher up and people can't afford it and then complain when we make it affordable and get large numbers....jeez....

 

Wow, why all the negativity on here. We actually won the game for heaven sake.

Play off games are far too tense to expect flowing attacking football all night.

We played a team who just finished above us and I thought we battled so well tonight against them.

Another repeat battling performance on Saturday should see us through with at least a draw.

Moxon looked a very good player, but apart from corners, I don't think they really troubled us, despite them having too much possession in that second half.

Very good performances from the back 4, Lewis didn't have much to do.

Gilliead and Banks impressed too.

Happy taking a goal lead up there.

 

I really don't get all this negativity. Fabulous support today. Gritty team performance. Won 1-0.

Anyone thinking they would come here and roll over needs their heads testing.

Pressure is now on them to break us down. We love playing away and haven't won at Brunton Park since 1985. Time to put that right.

Please don’t play Osedebe again this season he was terrible when he came on. Why they took Banks off is beyond me.
But on a positive note what a fantastic atmosphere tonight probably the best for years

 

It's because he's not scored for a game or so.

He's exactly the same weight all the time but he's "fat and overweight" when he's not scoring and "a bit leaner" when he's just netted a brace.

 

My biggest pet peeve under Hughes is that we have all 11 in the box for corners, all 11 if it's a deep free kick yet we always look like we could easily concede.

Even if we just leave 1 up top around the centre circle, that means they leave 2 back I case of a break away. Seems like we constantly bite ourselves having 11 in the box, if we win the header or clear a corner out our area, there's not a single city player there for the 2nd ball and the opposition just have another chance to get it in from 30 yards out.

 

Word is if they make the final the Board will pay for both coaches of supporters

 

Game day folks.
Whatever happens over the next 2 and hopefully 3 matches, we have to get behind the lads from first to last minute and if we do miss out , be ready to come back and go again next season.
I feel the oil tanker is turning and we have something to really get behind again.
Hughes will have learned a lot from his first full season at this level and will have plenty of room in the squad to improve again.

At the moment Sky have no interest in Lge 2 football.
If however,Salford get to the final,Sky will be wanking itself stupid at the thought of all the close ups of Giggs,Keane,Butt etc in the directors box.Neville will make sure of that.
There might even be a surprise appearance of a Beckham to send the Sky executives in to a fawning frenzy.
Fortunately to the rest of the football watching world they are rightly seen as a bit of a joke.

Before the game tonight Butt said “we want to eventually get noticed nationally and then internationally”

3900 for a home play off shows them up for what they are - just another small Lge 2 outfit.

I desperately want us to go up but if not us then anybody but Salford.

 

Not having a proper left-sided midfielder/winger is hurting us.

A number of times the ball came out to Ridehalgh and he had no one running on into the channel. If he was lucky, Jamie Walker might have been somewhere nearby.

All he can do is cut back inside to look for a pass. He can't risk running with the ball as he hasn't got any midfield cover. That made life for Carlisle much easier.

 

Also, new attendance record for fourth division play offs.

Now can those pretending we're not a 'big club' for this level finally give it a rest?

That attendance had nothing to do with cheap tickets.

 

Great post, wasn't expecting whinging to be honest.

Thought tonight was a case of job done, the last thing we needed was to have to go to Carlisle (where we don't win) and need a win.

A draw up there, 1-1, 0-0, it'll do and we're off to Wembley for a 1 match shoot out.

Yes some players underperformed, but overall the team defended manfully and Carlisle never troubled Lewis (even when they should have done).

Omari Patrick and Jordan Gibson both looked terrible, and overall Carlisle looked like a side that have run out of steam and are low on confidence up front.

It's far from over, of course, as Carlisle have the ability to blow us away at theirs, but so far... so good...

 

Don't make out like they're the ones with the advantage, that's not how a 1 goal lead works. To beat us in normal time they have to score at least two and they've struggled to score as of late and last night you could see why.
They have to come at us now and we play better way from home. We definitely hold the aces at the moment.

 

That incident was particularly awful from an older player with recent Championship pedigree who was brought here for his experience and nous. To have been so totally unaware of the space he was in, not to mention the underhit backpass - one of several - is inexcusable. It wasn't as though he had to do anything fancy - he just had to turn round and carry it forward.

 

In summary - a very good win. We'd have all taken a 1 goal win before the match.

Far from job done, but the onus is on them to break us down and all we have to do is avoid defeat to secure a Wembley spot. That is enough motivation for the lads in 6 days time.

I'd give Osedebe a go on the left. I thought he did very well when he came on on Monday.

 

The way some are posting you would think we lost the match. Yes it was tense, yes it was close but that is hardly a surprise when both teams finished on the same points, with the same number of wins, draws and losses.
Play offs are generally speaking (Sheffield Wednesday apart) close cagey affairs with nerves playing their part.
Happy to have a slim advantage.

 

I am pleased we take a 1-0 lead to Carlisle. I am not going to criticise the players or the management team. You do not get out of this league playing free flowing football. You have to fight, claw and kick your way out of it. If we go up playing this way so be it. I don’t give a toss, I have seen awful football played by clubs and watched them head up to league 1.
The players are doing their best. I thought we played well in the first half, less so in the second but we hung onto our lead, that is just the kind of grit we need to get out of here.
Ref did not give Cook one free kick, Banks played with two men on him all the time. They did well to manage that situation. They let Jamie Walker go once and he scored.
