Their capacity is 10.8k ours is more than double that , other than that what do you mean? Their turnover including commercial activity is nothing like ours so how are they the same “ size”?

Turnover / Revenue streams dictates “size” in football parlance without looking.

Yeah, but as a small club their stadium can only handle 9,500 or so - not set up for big games like we are, Park!

Blah, blah.....Keep going on about the price structure.

Think back to last Sunday. 22576 tickets sold, 1900 from Orient, 14300 season tickets, so you're talking over 6,000 walk ups at full price for that game!!! That's nearly 45% of the season tickets. 66% of the Stockport average. Our average is nearly 4000 above season tickets and that isn't away fans so we get a very decent number of walk ups.

Don't belittle it, more fans and we've attracted more sponsorship and off field earnings as a result of the fanbase.

What is wrong with affordable football? If it wasn't for affordable football I wouldn't have been able to afford to take my two lads when they were younger so not building that relationship and now they've been going for over a combined 30 years in total. Completely addicted.

People moan about the cost of football higher up and people can't afford it and then complain when we make it affordable and get large numbers....jeez....

When did Stockport last get 20,000+ and/or average 15,000+ over a decade or more?

I agee, having just read it. Well my comment it is now or never as far as this season goes, we either find our inner Barcelona or go into the next season in league 2.

That’s what some do, even at the expense of wrongly trying to make a point.
I’d still increase the prices to accommodate higher grade football however. Keep the principle but £25-50 a season increase would surely be acceptable to 99% of season owners?

Yes, a very good article, much of which I agree with.

It's refreshing to read an article which is supported with some hard evidence rather than simply an exchange of a few fans' opinions. It moves the debate on from just saying formation x is better than formation y or tactic 1 is always better than tactic 2 by looking at the outcomes of those decisions in terms of results. Well done WOAP.

Yep all pretty much spot on. I've stated on a couple of other threads that the loss of Chapman has been massive as we dont have an effective direct replacement.
We now have hopefully a 3 game season to play out. MH has got to juggle the pack to find the best solution that will get us over the line. There is nothing to fear in any of the other 3 teams but as the league table shows we are all very closely matched. It will come down to very fine margins and probably who can handle the pressure, so the players in turn need to stand up and be counted when it really matters. Over to you lads!!

Agree. The set piece stats are eye opening! As is the comparison of Carlisle to the typical profile of team that we've struggled against all season.

The goals against stats are quite damning and still we continue with that particular approach. The corollary is that our defenders are very good at doing their jobs in open play, helped of course by playing a midfielder in a deep defensive position. It's MH's chosen tactic of adopting zonal marking in set plays which is flawed.

My biggest pet peeve under Hughes is that we have all 11 in the box for corners, all 11 if it's a deep free kick yet we always look like we could easily concede.

Even if we just leave 1 up top around the centre circle, that means they leave 2 back I case of a break away. Seems like we constantly bite ourselves having 11 in the box, if we win the header or clear a corner out our area, there's not a single city player there for the 2nd ball and the opposition just have another chance to get it in from 30 yards out.

To actually get to the playoffs Hughes must be doing something right. But as has been pointed out elsewhere and by some on here i have never really seen us put a team to the sword over 90 minutes. Each formation Hughes has tried has shown that we ultimately didn't have a good enough squad to go up automatically despite the pre season hype. As an attacking unit Andy Cook has pulled us out of the mire in plenty of games, defensively Harry Lewis has shown how a truly decent keeper can make a difference to your season.

Zonal marking at corners isn't necessarily bad. West Ham defended 110 corners this season before conceding from one. But if you do it then you have to do it properly, and we clearly are not doing so. Whether that's down to poor coaching or players not following instructions, I'm not sure.

Totally agree, it has been like this all season, how are we to get it out safely if there is nobody there? Plus you are giving the opposition two or three free corners and the pressure eventually cracks. In my view that is why we concede in corners and free kicks around the box.

I acknowledge that zonal marking is widely used in the PL and many teams deploy it well. My concern is whether it is transferable to the lower leagues where the skillset isn't quite up to PL standards!

I put it in the same category as continually playing the ball out from the back at a walking pace or the use of some formations which may be favoured at the elite level but are not the best in the khazi.

Whatever the reason we cannot really compare the Prem to L2 Offy, although I do under your meaning.
